Help!! Newbie struggling with blue and me

Hello, I have a fiat 500 2010 model. It has blue and me and seem to work with with commands however I can’t stream music from my phone is there a way to do this?

Have you tried a basic MP3 player through the USB console

Does your phone pair up OK to the car

At 2010 you would likely benifit from an update to the last/latest BlueMe module software.......it can be done still.

PM me if you need support with this as I can do it posting out the files and you returning memory sticks, unless you are computer savvy then I can explain how to access and download the correct files to complete the cars update.

I don’t have any other MP3 player to try which is annoying.

It pairs up to the phone well, it’s just the music. It’s has the USB port next to the handbrake and the phone charger will connect to the phone then says no media found and does not charge the phone.

I have just had a look at the link and it doesn’t mention the iPhone 11 only goes up to the 6 I think? do you know if it will it still work with it?

You need to prove out your console USB is working first.

We install the TomTom2 sat navs to the older cars and have to update the BlueMe module software using the USB. On average on the older cars we find about a third have damaged or faulty USB conections some even been disconnected at the back. Often had dried coffee and crumbs all blocked up inside too.

Either find an MP3 player to test the USB socket or get a memory stick formatted to FAT32 and see if you can upload the stage 1 files to get a readback of your cars BM software status, or copy some music files to the memory stick.

We have not dealt with the phones and or compatibility but have some iPod models that will play when connected direct to USB and other models that are not recognised at all even in the same car.

You can do a quick check and see if you have had previously 2nd generation software installed. Go into cluster menu and in settings scroll through and see if you can get the word IMAGE ID on the speedo display.

I've no idea about any physical connections, but if you are connecting via Bluetooth I may have the answer.

My Fabia is 2015, and connected well with my old phone. A couple of years ago when I got a new phone, I could only connect to answer or end calls. No phone book, no text messages on screen.
After a lot of digging, I found that the new phone used Bluetooth v1.4, the car 1.3. The new protocol is not backwards compatible.
With my Android phone, I found a way into the deep (developer) settings, and set the new phone to use 1.3, and I then got phone book, call logs, dialling form the car, and compile/send/receive/read texts on the car screen.
I've never streamed music from the phone, so no idea whether that is affected, and with the reversion to 1.3, no idea whether some new functionality is lost.

So that may be a starting point, but with an Apple device, reverting to the earlier Bluetooth may be more difficult, or not possible. Might need some more research, maybe on Apple forums, rather than car forums.

Good luck. If you find a solution, please post it here, as this is not the first time this problem has popped up. As cars get older, and phone software people race ahead to develop ever more complications, such problems will continue with older cars, possibly everything oplder than 3 years.

Those BlueMe adaptors are very expensive even used ones sell for over £50 so not something I would pay out for until the cars system function is all tested and I still recommend doing a software update to later BM 10 version. It will cost nothing and stage1 of the process will at the very least prove out the USB port is functioning.

We have experienced all kinds of issues with the TomToms especially when old users and old data from previous owners has still all been left programmed into the car. TomTom and phones may not always immediately be recognised or periodically just drop out from the BlueMe connection


As I have said check out in your menu settings to establish if maybe you already have 2nd generation software, delete ALL and Delete USERS previously items paired to the car then start from a base before opening your wallet on something that may or may not be needed.

For the cost of a few postage stamps I can send you out a memory stick with stage1 files for your car. This does nothing other than read your cars current configuration but at the same time if it does recognise the request it will prove your USB is functioning. Send the USB stick back to me I can upload then from the official BlueandMe site the latest software available for the cars blueme system.

Does the adapter work for iPhone 11?

Have a brand new Panda and had charging issues. Dealer said the cars USB isnt man enough to charge they said buy an adapter for the lighter 12v socket but to get one with 2.1A output. I note that it even says in the handbook the cars USB may not charge a phone! Moral is just buy a cheap adapter. I have two now and they work a charm. You can always also get a twin or triple socket adapter too. I am considering a hard wired USB socket as an extra fitting as well.

You could always buy a reasonable new radio with a USB and aux in with blue tooth as these are reasonably priced these days as well.

A standard computer spec USB is rated at 500mA. Most car sockets are set up as this, as many plug-in sticks or devices cannot cope with more. A proper charging socket can be made to output lots more, as it is not a data connection.

As you have a 2010 car it's possible you have the older version of blue and me which needed the adaptor, but it is also important that you know as prompted above that the USB port actually works.

It does however from what you've already said, suggest your car's USB port may be faulty.
In all honesty as well. Blue and Me is terrible, absolutely terrible and there are plenty of ways around having to use it.

Do you have any other things happening like flashing speedo mileage.

There are so many items on the Blue&Me so what features were you using prior and I assume then you have lost steering wheel button functions.

Do you have any bluetooth earphones..............I have discovered that during the Blue&Me signals when ignition switched on my bluetooth earphones give interference static and when I was investigating a failed BlueMe tomtom which turned out to be a a faulty blue&Me module my earphones were silent.

Battery disconnection is certainly a worthy try initially and worked for me when I lost BlueMe and was having problems on one vehicle but it also had flashing mileage showing but both were corrected when I left it disconnected overnight and reconnected.

Hi Farrah, we have a 2011 500 with BlueMe.
Trying to get music to play from iPhone.
AUX does not seem to play music; connected AUX cable between iPod and AUX connection but no media recognized.
Phone pairs and USB works.
USB charges my iPhone when connected and it plays music from a USB (file in WMA format). We are trying to get the radio to accept music from the phone through the USB connector. Is my understanding correct this should be possible with the latest software?
How can we check if the BlueMe module has the latest software version?

Hi Farrah, we have a 2011 500 with BlueMe.
How can we check if the BlueMe module has the latest software version?

If you go into the menu functions on the speedo clusters and into SETTINGS then look for IMAGE ID under ADVANCED.

If you see IMAGE ID then you have 2nd generation software.

The only other way is to download from the Blueandme website the files that will read your current configuration and BlueandMe software level.

You then need to place these files on a USB memory stick and put it in the cars USB console slot which then will download onto the memory stick the e BMConfig file.

This is an XML file that needs certain software like notepad++ to read the content. Notepad++ is free to download.

I can help you establish all this and send you the initial files required as access to the official blueandme.net site can be difficult for some.

You will still need a windows PC and a 2GB memory flash drive then you can send me the files back or upload and I can see from what is in the BMconfig file what level software you are at.

However you cannot go wrong updating to the latest level if required.

To send you the required files I will need your email address so PM me if you want to proceed

if we go into menu and into SETTINGS we do not even have ADVANCED Guess that means we do not have 2nd Gen software.

Got you PM will sort out over weekend. Do you use a windows PC and have a small flash memory USB about 2GB............no problems accessing the blueandme update site plenty of ways without the adobe flash. If you don't use a PC then I will have to post out the files on a USB.
