Help!! Newbie struggling with blue and me

Farrah, received the ZIP, found an appropriate USB stick and ran "the first step".

BMConf.xml stored on USB (took less than 5 seconds ... I was reading the instructions for the next bullet and she was done :D ).

Made a WETransfer back to you with that file.

Hi received OK............BMConf is old level but otherwise looks good to upload back to the BlueMe site to get latest files for your car. Have emailed you.

Bye

YES!!! (y)

Kudos to Farrah for downloading and forwarding the required update files :worship:

Updated B&M from the basic level to the latest and now we can stream Spotify through the standard USB cable :slayer:

Hi Farrah.

I have just bought a 2013 500 and I'm baffled by Blue&Me. I've no way of knowing if I have the up to date version because I can't find "settings" in the menu! I've tried the Menu button by the speedo, and the one on the stereo, and there's no Settings option.

I can get it to pair with my phone (A cheap chinese smartphone) and respond to "telephone" etc, but it'd be nice to get it to stream Spotify even if that's via the USB cable, rather than bluetooth. It charges happily over USB. Not tried using a memory stick for the media player yet.

What kind of messages does the Message Reader function read, is it only texts, and do those have to be received while you are in the car...?

Any advice for a luddite would be ideal

Hi,

2013 I doubt is the latest blueandme software unless someone did update your car previously as the updates went on till mid 2015 for the blueandme system.

If your current system is at least working you should be able to press the lower outer LEFT steering wheel button which will either be a windows icon or a mouth/voice icon with ignition ON you should get a message from the radio speakers to 'MAKE a SELECTION' then it will state options which should be 'settings' 'delete users' or delete all'.......................I always just 'delete all' as it clears from the cars memory any previous user or device that has been previously paired up.

So if your car is set to understand ENGLISH you only have to speak into the front clearly the voice command.........if you have a strong Scottish or Irish accent:D I don't know as I read some struggle..........

So if the radio does not even speak to you then you have some other problems.......

To check what level software you have I need to see your BMConfig file and upload to the official blueandme website to see what updates are needed.

The very latest and no longer any updates available after 2015 but the very latest is V10 2nd Generation and we can update your car to this level providing currently all the items are working.......this means a working blueMe module and a working USB port........appears your USB port is OK so if the BMConfig file comes back showing a BMADDRESS in the script line then we can update.........

You will need to PM me with your email address as I need to send you the extraction files to get at your current BMConfig file......you will need a 2GB USB flash memory formatted to FAT32 (FAT32 is important).........download the files and place in cars USB and the BMConfig file will be placed onto the USB stick which you need to send me back.

Older cars this can take sometimes 3 updates required as you cannot go straight from 5.4 to V10 but I would suspect your car at 2013 would at least be 5.6 so should just take a single operation to get updated.

I will send the files via wetransfer.com and you can send the BMConfig file back by email as it is just a small file. This is referred to as stage 1 and does not alter anything on your car just reads the current configuration.

Also one further step is if you want to interface a TomTom2 sat nav as this will require a further line code change...........as the earlier Magneti MarelliMAP and TomTomONE sat navs Fiat Chrysler used are really outdated then I suggest you add this update too at the same time.

I will await your PM info

Hi I’ve just bought a 60 plate 500 sport for my sons first car. When I press the windows button I get no response. The blue & me usb won’t charge my phone either. Is this a common fault? The phone does connect via Bluetooth though

Hi,

Could be a few issues either a faulty speaker or faulty buttons. Worse case a faulty BM module but as you say you have connected your phone the latter is less likely.

Just clarify though your mileage on the cluster is not flashing and you have the original factory radio installed.

Primarily the windows steering wheel button just gives voice command access to the blueandme system. The radio does not need to be switched on. All the voice commands though are duplicated by manual use of the right hand side and cluster menu buttons as an alternative.

Did you see BLUE and ME come up on the phone and assuming you paired it up then via the manual control buttons.

Firstly you need to scroll through all the manual cluster settings and list out what you see. When exiting each one press OK.

If you can get a pairing number for the phone on the cars cluster screen then see blue and me on the phone menu to add the pairing up 4 digit number I doubt you have a faulty BlueandMe module......

Come back with an update on what you get from RHS wheel buttons.

Hi, can you try to clear all user data and then pair the phone again without uploading the phonebook?

Hi,

Really need ALL the questions responded to. Do all your steering wheel buttons work and have you tried doing all the menu settings through voice control.....

Need to eliminate what is working correctly.

Under advanced features when you select and scroll through do you see IMAGE ID..................

Under settings/user data have you done a DELETE ALL....................best steps would be to load up latest BlueMe software to the car but it would help to tick off what is working fine at the moment so what about all the other steering wheel buttons.

If you need help updating the cars software PM me your email address so I can send you the files......it will also let us see if the USB is being read by the BlueMe module

Bye

Hi I cleared the memory as suggested and the windows button now activates blue & me. I’ve also looked under advanced features and can only see GPRS code and sys code

Hi,

OK that is one improvement...... I suggest you now upgrade the cars Blue and Me software as if you cannot see IMAGE ID then you are not at the latest level software.

It may have to be done in 3 stages as not possible to go from level 8 to V10 2nd generation without firsy upgrading to level 9

Do you use a windows PC......I can send files for you to download otherwise I will have to send you the files on a flash drive then you send back so just the cost of postage needs to be covered

Hi I would be happy to try with a laptop but if it doesn’t work (cheap laptop) I can get back to you for usb

Hi,

I concluded he has NOT got 2nd Generation software as IMAGE ID is not showing in the menu.

Smoggie a laptop is fine if you have a USB port on it. You will need a 2GB USB2 Flash drive formatted to FAT32.....it must be FAT32

If you have an old laptop you may still have flash player so go into google and put www.blueandme.net in the search and then see if you can open the blueandme website......if you can then easier for you to do it yourself. It is a simple process takes just 10 minutes even if 3 stages need completing but a bit drawn out if we have to keep sending files back and forth.

Until I can see your BMConfig file I have no idea what current earlier software level you have.

If I need to send you the files I will need you to PM your email address.

You can install Maxthon Nitro browser that still supports flash in order to see the content in the B&M website. Don't use it to access other sites though as it's not safe to run flash nowadays.

@Farrah
I have been confused with the software versions indeed. Does every unit supports version V10? So, let's say I'm at 5.6, if I run the config read, will it suggest a later version? I used to think that it's relative to the HW generation.

Edit: From what I can find, it seems that there are two different harware versions, the 1st one is able to update up to 5.6 and the second one up to v10. Is that right?
You concluded that @smoggie9 has 1st gen HW but you suggested to update to v10 software.

Hi,

Depends how old the laptop is as MXNitro needs Win7 or Win10 as a minimum.
I use MXNitro all the time to access lots of other sites as it is so much quicker. I just do not have any personal data or would think of using the laptop it resides on for banking, Paypal or anything where I could get scammed.

With respect to cars software I have worked on Fiats and Alfa's from 2010 up to 2016 and all have had to be updated to V10 2nd generation as TomTom2 sat navs are being installed. We have not doe any earlier cars so cannot comment at what point earlier BlueMe me modules may able to be updated to.

Whilst I do this solely for TomTom istallation I have been asked for the files to do the updates for people having trouble with later phones especially streaming music etc.........most report back successfully. Failures have been when for some reason there is no BDAddress line code that should appear ayt the base line of the BMConfig file.

If you have access to the blueandme.net website it is useful to actually read all the PDF files with the information that comes when downloading files.

smoggie you say your windows button now works so is it stating when ignition ON to say a command and if so is that voice command being accepted OK......this will help eliminate any speaker or microphone faults that could cause interference.

I would recommend everyone who uses latest phones to update to latest software unless you are still using the magneti marelli MAP sat nav. The software can be easily updated but it cannot be backdated.

If the car has previously been updated to latest software then any attempts to update will be rejected which is what confuses many.

Hi Farrah

With ignition on I get blue & me asking for options and responding to my commands.
I’m not sure how to get BMConfig information. Do I need to have someone scan the car?
I will try over the next couple of days to see if I can access the blue&me website with Flash and let you know how I get on.
Thanks for you help and advice.

Hi,

First thing you have t do is download the files from the blueandme site onto a USB stick. Place this in your cars USB console slot and then switch ignition ON.

This extracts your BMConfig file with the cars unique module code to write to.......the BMConfig file is automatically placed onto the USB flash drive.

This is refereed to as stage 1. The BMConfig file is then uploaded to the blueandme site which then gives you the next level update available for your car........if early software it will only allow 8 or 9.......this is referred o as stage 2 then these files are loaded onto again a freshly formatted fat32 usb AND PLACED IN THE CARs USB then the ignition switched ON and the cars blueme module software will be updated.........depending on the software level initially downloaded you might not get straight into loading V10 2nd gen so will then after the update do the whole process again as updates have to be sequential................

Stage 2 takes a lot longer as the files are much larger for the full update. Stage 1 does nothing to the car just reads the BMConfig file.

At the moment nothing appears to not be performing as it should so keep going until we find what stalls.

@Farrah
I have confirmed from various sources that Gen 1 B&M can get updated only up to v5.6.
@smoggie9
Do as Farrah said, also follow the instructions on the site. You can get up to v5.6 by first installing v5.5.
Edit: I also have Gen1 hardware and it was not performing properly whenever I had uploaded the phonebook after pairing my phone so keep that in mind too.
