What TomTom unit?

What TomTom unit?

Congrats on your new car what I would deem to be one of the better puntos before fiat lost interest and started taking away the better options and bland looks that later cars had

I presume you’re looking for the original TomTom Blue and me unit that fiat sell/sold ?

They haven’t really made anything newer for the blue and me system since circa 2010 I have the “latest” blue and me live 2 system in my 2011 punto Evo and it is very out of date and clunky.

Also my older tomtom I bought in 2008 has become obsolete as tomtom now won’t provide any new maps for it, so I suspect that there is a high risk that the blue and me tomtom could become obsolete as well in the next couple of years.

I would recommend either using a smart phone satnav which usually get updated for free and are generally always up to date and have all the voice controlled smart phone options.

If you want a actual satnav unit then anything you want really, best you can afford with your budget.

If going the smart phone route there is a smart phone holder that you can only buy from fiat parts department for plugging into the dash socket (68R) and that is at least a bit better than windscreen suction cups, but they are stupidly expensive now, I’ve seen them advertised for £70+ if sold on eBay

Hi Mikey,
Only stepping in to support someone from my birth place. I suspect given the 1987 this may be your birth year so things will have changed a bit up the old Kings Road. I went to Stretford grammar school with Peter Noone from Herman and the Hermits and dated Jonny Giles for a short while a football player for Man U.
Enough history and waffle already so lets answer your question sensibly as every day this is becoming more difficult and confusing for many not withstanding the wrong info that gets written across so many forums.
Fiat/Alfa or better put probably Chrysler have made quite a few changes since the launch of their first Blue&Me sat nav which was a partnership with microsoft and magneti marelli and known as the Blue&Me MAP(MMMAP). Regards the sat nav features it was way behind TomTom technology but was the start of integrating the sat nav screen and steering wheel buttons into the cars software.
Chrysler were quick to move ahead with technology and partnered with TomTom and brought out the TomTom One a much better sat nav graphics larger screen size in same size casing and full street post code functions with the integration too into the cars software to display on the sat nav screen car info ie trip, fuel, eco, etc.
This required a different cradle in the dash but still fitted the 68R slot which just provides power all the rest is wireless bluetooth.
As TomTom progressed introducing 'LIVE' services the next model sat nav was known as the TomTom2 LIVE Blue& Me (circa 2011). This is basically a TomTom 1000 GO LIVE 4CS01 with different software. It was the Rolls Royce of sat navs and had everything with the addition of the LIVE services you could google, twitter, get weather and see car information on the TomTom screen as well as sing along with your music as it dispalyed the MP3/iPod songs being played on the TomTom screen and fully integrated with the steering wheel buttons for phone.
Sometime later there was some fall out with TomTom and when the firmware was updated the Google and Twitter functions were removed. This model TomTom though also required a different cradle mount which was referred to as the CRATT2 its previous one just CRATT which was for the TomTom One. Firmware updates from TomTom on this model finished support in 2018 but map updates are still available on most at a cost, but as graphics improved on the earlier models with a 4GB harddrive the Europe 45 countries were split into 8 zones which you can change round anytime depending on where you travel but it can take about an hour each time to do the change. The later 8GB model came out then which allowed the full 45 countries to reside permanently so if you were a prolific traveller in Europe you need not worry to suddenly find you were short of a country.
We have a later TomTom2 in our 500 which originally had a Magneti Marelli MAP that did not work and despite exhaustive attempts speaking with Fiat dealers everyone said the car cannot be updated. More fake news as after further test and trials and a bit of software fiddling on the code we jumped from a MMMAP to the TomTom2. We have the latest maps 2021 and full functional LIVE services and the full integration with the cars BlueMe software. As far as satnavs are concerned all I can say is it is brilliant masses of features, no dangling wires as it sits neatly in just the right position in its cradle dash mount.
Now the BIG problem for you possibly is what level software is your car programmed for as to fit a TomTom2 Blue Me and get fully funtional you need 2nd generation level programmed into your car.
To check this you need to go into the cluster menu and into settings look for Image ID. If you have IMAGE ID your car has been programmed for a TOMTOM2 and pairing one up should be simple. After that it is how much you want to spend a low budget usable TomTom2 in nice condition should cost no more than £75, later models maybe up to £100-150 max. It really depends on how well they have been looked after and whether all scratched screens and dented scuff backs and the condition of the rechargeable battery too. (maybe stop here):yuck::yuck::yuck::yuck::yuck::yuck:
If you do not have the right software programmed into your car then at the moment you may be wasting your money on a TomTom2. Up until this week despite the end of life of Adobe Flash Player we have still been fitting and reprogramming earlier vehicles (mainly 500 and Alfa Giuliettas) for the TomTom2's. There are several ways to still gain access into the official Blueandme website and we still can but as of the past few days the download support page essential for doing the cars software updates to take the TomTom2 has been showing error 404 so whilst the BlueMe site is still functional this could be the end of updating.
Our team is well used to breaking codes and accessing websites as we track down the voluminous scammers and I have one of my guys looking into this now.
So for the time being it is essential to check your cars software. I can help with some cars updating as we have already downloaded and stored the software required but not for your model.
I have a couple of older model TomTom2's that we just use for test pairing to prove out the cars functional capability so people can try before they were to buy. It is a lot cheaper to cover postage rather than fork out on a TomTom2 BlueMe that will not work as a basic TomTom Go LIVE 1000 can be bought for £10 and still has all the bluetooth phone functions.
PM me for any further information or help and I can send you via email pictorial guides on what to do to perform the initial checks of your cars software but for now can't cope with the keyboard flack so will not be making further responses. Indeed I only came in here as you were from my hometown.
As for the phone mounts you don't mention even if you have the 68R dash mount. The phone mounts are ridiculously expensive for what they are just a plastic moulding of parts. The Cratt cradles OK these have the voltage reducer and filter electronics inside so somewhat acceptable but a rip off for the phone ones. Someone is 3D printing a copy and selling on ebay for around £29 but they look a bit rough on the surfaces
Pictures below show two of our TomTom2's one with an 8GB hardrive at the bottom and one with a 4GB harddrive at the top . Note the map year with update recently done on the bottom one a month ago showing 1/2021 currently latest TomTom map available and is 45 countries the full european version. The 4GB one above will not hold the full set of countries and was last updated in late 2019 and currently loaded with Zone1 of the 8 various choices that can be changed over anytime free on TomTom MYDRIVECONNECT.
