Generation 1 unit conversion to generation 2

Hello, im new to this forum and i have a question.
I have a Fiat Punto 2010 Evo 1.3 Multijet with Blue and Me generation 1, version 5.6 i think it is, its the latest version of software for that generation. I had an idea, is it possible to order a generation 2 Blue and Me "box" or how do you call that, i mean the Blue and Me hardware, and replace it with my existing one, will it work? Do i also have to replace the headunit?

Why would you want to? Even in it's latest incarnation B&M is terrible, if you're going to go to the hassle of replacing the headunit, stick in an aftermarket unit with more features.
