Hello,

This question is not Brava specific per se but i could not find a better place for it.

Anyhow, my friend has a 2009 Brava with the radio of the attached picture (sorry, the site disallowed me posting the gallery image). This radio allow hands free call with BT paired phone.

My question is how does one play audio, either via BT or 3.5mm (is there any?)

And, There's a USB connector too: when i plug a droid, it (the droid) says he's connected as a storage to a PC but the radio does not say anything. I expected to be able to navigate droid's folders but the radio seems unaware that i plugged anything to the USB

Thanks in advance for your time

Guy

You cant play music over the bluetooth.

As far as I know there is no 3.5mm jack unless you modify it.

You can play music via the USB slot but I believe the music needs to be on the root of the device. I had an iPhone and worked no issues over the USB with the adapter. I don't have any experiences with a Droid so cannot help much with that.

I couldn't get B&M to read my Nexus 4 despite it being in mass storage, no great loss though as the D/A converter in the stock head unit really doesn't sound that great. I ended up replacing the head unit with a reasonably priced Sony. It now easily streams music over Bluetooth or USB and sounds considerably better even with the stock speakers. No, I don't miss B&M!:D

Thanks Morcos999,
Sorry to ask, what is it that you call Head unit? Is it the "radio" that you replaced from the originally equipped by Fiat with a Sony one?

Thanks Freebo,

I am not sure what you call the root. i want to prepare a stick for the next time i see my friend: do i have to place the music files (say mp3) at the top level? i.e. not enclosed in any folder? If so, what should happen once the stick is stuck:)?? Will the radio show the files by filenames? by metadata 'song'?

Yes root is the top level

Plugged a stick with mp3 files at the root: nothing happened, could not select 'usb' as source. The radio seems to ignore the inserted stick. Can somebody tell what is the usb connector function? Is it a mere charger?
Thanks in advance,
Guy

You might have to change the radio to 'media player'. You can do this by pressing the CD button twice or pressing source on your steering wheel.

If you insert a stick into the usb port and follow the steps above it will either say...

'building media library' which means you have to wait for it to build you music database, try it again in about 10 mins and see if its done. It can take ages, it takes about 20 mins in my punto for it to build a library from a 32gb stick

or it will say

'no media found'. if it says this then check if the light on your USB stick lights up when its inserted. if it does light up then try a different USB stick first. if it doesn't make a difference it could be your USB port, possibly broken

Thanks James,
No luck. The source selector cycles between tuner and cd even if a stick with mp3 files at outer level is inserted. The usb plug does power the stick and makes it blink few seconds but that's all. I'm giving up
Thanks again,
Guy
