Hiya All,

Firstly hello from a new user.

Secondly, I know this has been done to the death by the looks of it but I could really do with some sensible answers for a non techy type of bloke.

I have just bought a 2010 (10 reg) Punto Evo Dynamic with B&M (not sure what software version it is) and want to use:

  • my 2 year old iPhone 4 (NOT 4s) running ios 5.1.1 to make and recieve calls via bluetooth.
  • my iPod Touch 3G to play music pref via the USB port.
There seems to be a fair amount of people having difficulty with iPhones and B&M. Will I need the B&M Adaptor if only to make and recieve calls via bluetooth?

Will I need the adaptor to use my iPod via the USB port or would it be better to convert my iTunes music to MP3 on a normal USB stick and play that through the USB port?

Again, sorry if this has been answered before.

Thanks

Hi

I was in exactly the same boat a few months ago. I have same car, same phone and phone SW. Steep learning curve later I can tell you my experiance.

You don't need the adapter to use the iPhone (for calls) over bluetooth.

You will need the adapter for the iPod music. You cannot use the iPhone for music and calls. Personally I bought a cheap 8Gb memory stick, rather than the adapter. Much cheaper and I am happy to leave it there all the time.

my iPhone connected via bluetooth makes blue and me go crazy. It pairs and syncs the phonebook fine, but next time blue and me keeps resetting.

I would be interested if you have the same issue. I have a work around if you do. I think it is something to do with my phonebook.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info and advice homersimpson.

I'll let you know how I get on ;)

Try it and see, 2010 was when they altered the blue&me system. Mine is a '60 and doesn't require an ipod adapter.

Ok.....sorry about the delay, had an unexpected wait to collect the car.

As homersimpson predicted:

The iPhone works just fine. Although I was a bit worried to start with. At first, it wouldn't pair but after a 2hr journey home from the dealer, it paired nicely.

The iPod on the other hand, no such luck. Tried it with a standard USB to apple cable and nothing, tried it with a proper apple USB cable and yep...nothing. When I plug it in it powers up but does not charge. If I press 'Media' on the head unit of the stereo the display reads "No Source..." something or other.

So in summary, iPhone 4 (NOT 4s) running IOS 5.1.1 pairs with a 10reg Punto Evo no problems but the iPod 3rd Gen does noy work via the USB.

The Fiat Media Player Adapter Blue&Me for iPod and iPhone is required unless VIN is greater than

  • Fiat 500: 504557
  • Fiat Bravo: 4300440
  • Fiat Punto: 703814 / 1693432
  • Fiat Punto EVO: 707377 / 1700694

I suppose this also differentiates the B&M units 1st and 2nd generation. 2nd generation can only be updated with the recently released v6.0, wheres all previous updates (5.x) only apply to 1st gen.

So now I realise that the Message Reader doesn't work with the iPhone.

Have read on another thread that it could be due to the iMessage thingy on the iPhone, has anyone else tried this and did it work? i.e. receiving SMS Text messages from someone not using iMessage.

Aldo read that I may need to jailbreak my phone wich I am not particularly happy about to be fair.

Has anyone got any ideas of how I can get this to work? iPhone 4 (NOT 4s) running 5.1.1 paired to a 10reg Punti Evo Dynamic.

Sorry, but the message reader won't work with the iPhone and every other phone I have tried with it. I think there are only two phones every built that it works with :)

There is a work around if you jailbreak your iPhone and use a different message app. Personally I don't think it is worth the hassle.

Does your iPhone reconnect to blue and me, via bluetooth ok? Did you sync your phone book? Just wondered, it will help me with a problem I am having.

Firstlt, thanks again for the info. I thought as much but hey ho!

When I picked the car up on Friday just gone I tried to pair it with the car but the phone kept saying that pairing took too long then the phone didn't want to connect with the car. Realised later that the phone couldn't find the car!

As before, after a 2hr drive home, I tried again and they paired and connected no problems. Synced the phonebook straight away without any difficulties. The only strange thing is, when I ask the car to call someone by name, the name appears on the dash readout but if I scroll back through the last recieved etc, it only displays the number. Is that a setting that can be altered?

Now not being a techy type of guy, my best guess is that the battery / charge was not high enough considering the car had been in the dealers for at least 2 weeks (boot open, not moving, not being started and run etc), so after I had run it for just over 2hrs predominently at round 75MPH it had charged the battery.

Haven't had any problems with it since. Have been in and out of the car numerous times and the phone and car always reconnect without fault (so far anyway). I get the same ring tone through the car speakers as the phone (different assigned tones for different people).

Hope this helps.

Yes it does help thanks.

I must have something in my phone book it doesn't like. After the initial pairing (which works fine) when the phone connects up blue and me keeps restarting. If when I originally pair I don't copy the phonebook it is all ok.

Wonder if it's because I have email addresses in the phone book????

Maybe but I have got e-mails within my contacts too. I wouldn't know what to suggest tbh, sorry.
