Hi all.

I originally posted this in the 500 section and was advised to come here.

Is it possible to use the Blue & Me USB port as a power supply?

I have an existing Tomtom and iphone/ipods that all require a USB port for charging.

I know you can connect an ipod/iphone to the stereo via the port on newer cars (I pick a new 500 twin Air up at the end of the month), but can you use it simply as a power supply or should I get an adapter for the cigarette lighter socket?

Thanks in advance.;)

i used mine last year to charge my phone at vfest. Kept my phone reasonably well charged for the 4 days we were there. Not sure about iphones i'm sure the dongle kit states doesn't charge? That will be on the fiat site no doubt

Thanks for the info.

It looks like I'm just going to have to experiment a bit when I finally get my hands on the car, but if you charged a phone using it, it sounds like I'm at least in with a chance of success.

Hi
I think like you said it's trial and error. It will charge most things like phones, but i just bought a TomTom Go950 live and will not work off the usb it keeps shutting down after 3 mins and just charges. Looked it up on the net and it something to do with it thinks it's connecting to a computer and i think it just doesn't get the response it requires so times out after 3 mins. TomTom works fine from the lighter socket on the standard lead and using a 12v Car Cigarette Lighter USB Adapter Power Charger.

Hope this helps
James
