Hello guys,

I don't know if this is in the right forum or is best in the nav one, so be gentle :)

My current satnav is on it's way out so was thinking of getting the Tomtom one for my iPhone, but I also like to listen to my music off it on long journeys. So my question is can I use both at the same time?

I would presume as the nav is just an app and doesn't play with blue and me it would be ok? Or does blue and me need full control over my little phone?

I have an iPhone 4 with Tomtom 1.4 installed on it, plugged into the grande punto with the blue and me iphone / ipod adapter.

It actually works really well having both the music and tomtom running at the same time. The music plays normally but when tomtom is giving directions or that, the music fades down (but still plays in the background) and the tomtom lady speaks over the music. Once tomtom is finished speaking, the music fades back up again.

Might go down this route myself rather than having to pay £250 for the TomTom for Punto Evo. I like that audio be routed through car sound system. I believe in Evo unit plays audio from the TomTom :(

Can you use the TomTom unit to control the music at all?

I got it shortly after buying a new Punto and am trying to find out how to do certain things, but it's not easy searching for solutions...

Any help appreciated.

Hey,

As far as im aware, music cannot be controlled by the TomTom unit in the car. This is all controlled through your steering wheel controlls :)

As for where the voice comes from (tomtom unit or car speakers) i am unsure, if in the settings on the TomTom it says you can have the sound from either:

  • Internal Speaker
  • Bluetooth Hi-Fi Device
  • Line-Out (audio cable)

Okey doke - thanks.

I just thought it might because on the box it says that it is an 'ideal solution for all your music needs'.

I think that's just because you can connect it to bluetooth speakers maybe (but I'm pretty sure that doesn't satisfy 'all my music needs')

I remember seeing that the Sat Nav unit produces its own Audio, but i would quite happily be corrected! Im wanting to get the Sat Nav myself but wanting it to integrate into the car and internal audio

Hi,

Just got my Punto Evo Sporting on Tuesday and I have the TomTom unit too. I can confirm that I can control the music through the TomTom satnav without any problem. I can search via album, artist, etc. It really works well and is more than I expected. Very happy.

The TomTom does do its own audio but it is pretty loud, however it doesn't cut out the radio or music so if you have you tunes on really loud you may have a problem. I've got the TomTom on 55% and I don't have any problem hearing it over my music.

Shiny - how is it you control the music? My punto is 6 weeks old, and the TomTom was bought 3 weeks ago so it shouldn't require a software update...

When you setup the TomTom and pair it with the car you get a menu option called Car Menu. In that menu you can look at the phone you have paired as well as the trip computer and eco drive. The last menu option, as long as you have your music plugged in via the USB, is the media player. There you should be able to do as I described above.
