Hi

Has anyone heard if there will be a Blue&Me update to allow the new TomTom Blue&Me Satnav to work fully with the 500s Blue&Me system,

At the moment it will not connect all all during the Blue&Me pairing process using the current Fiat 500 Blue & Me firmware..

The old Blue&Me Nav unit was virtually unusable so I got one of the new TomToms, just hope it will be fully compatible soon..

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question but am I right in thinking these are only available from the dealers? Do you know what the RRP is for them?

Well yes the "Official One" is only available from Fiat Dealers

But there is a way of making ANY TomTom 540/740/940 into a TomTom Blue&Me ;)

The TomTom Blue&Me is a standard TomTom running a modified Operating System to allow it to connect to the Fiat Blue&Me System. This operating system can be downloaded from some of the web forums and installed onto the 540/740/940, which then operates as a TomTom Blue&Me (Works out a lot cheaper than buying the "Official Unit"

any chance you have a link to one of these forums please? we have NO tomtom options in australia, and i wouldnt mind getting one to work with the B&M even if the fiat mount and power etc arent there

thanks!

With current you mean the 5.4 version right ?
Have you tried it by yourself ?

But the tomtom gets power from the car right ?

I asked two dealers here an got two complete different answers.
1 says the tomtom does not work at all in the 500, it even not gets power from the car bacause the wiring from the docking port in the 500 is differnt to the one in the Punto evo. (I really cant believe that)

The other one says it gets power and even can be connected with the Blue&Me and just some of the functions like the ecodrive shift advice are not working.

Unfortunally none of them has a tomtom in store right now...

So i would be very thankful about any real experiences what the tomtom can or can not do in the 500.

Yes I have tried it on 5.4 in my 500 and it tries to connect but then says incorrect software version.

In the 500 there is a port in the dashboard the factory fit tomtom plugs into but it is just a USB power socket, the Blue & Me sends all info by bluetooth, so the socket is not needed as you can still power from a car lead and send the info by bluetooth anyway.

That is not correct, the docking port is the same, its a standard Blue & Me Nav port the same as currently used by the Blue & Me Nav unit currently used.

As soon the firmware update is out there I will be trying it.

OK, THX

Ja, i have the port, so i don't need additional power from the cigarret lighter right ?

As soon the firmware update is out there I will be trying it.
But it is still a rumour that there will be an update for the 500 or is this officially announced by FIAT ?

Iam a little bit afraid that there will be a special version of the tomtom for the 500only, maybe something that looks better in the 500, more like the old MAP. (although the tomtom looks not too bad in the dark sport interior)
Or because the Punto may have an more advanced Blue&Me and the punto tomtom is not backward compatible to the 500's B&Me.

This and the dealer who told me the tomtom gets no power from the 500 port is why i not already ordered the tomtom.

I not really need the tomtom to work with the 500 Blue&Me because i guess this would also have some downsides like i can not use all functions while driving for example.
But i would be pissed if i buy the punto tomtom now and next summer comes out a nicer one for the 500. (unlikely i guess, but who knows)

I also cantacted FIAT support on this but got no response on that topic yet.

So far Software updates haven't been model specific, although the dealers get an array of extra ones for various issues I believe.

I think you'll be OK in the end, just a matter of time to wait for the release of the software.

Thanks very much for that, exactly what i was after!

Hello, anyone know if there is a 500 specific tomtom on the horizon? I happen to have the docvking port and would like a sat nav but the official one seems to get not so good reviews.

Ta.

Tom tom blue and me is only for evo and new doblo and forth coming vehicles, there are no plans to update earlier vehicles as the tom tom also displays eco drive and my car information on its screen.

Surely it's just a software change / update on the car / device?

Sorry to disappoint, but Blue&Me Map, the system that is in 500's, is incompatible with the Tomtom system, and as far as I have been told by Fiat's technical trainers, it never will be.

I'd take that with a bag of salt Elation :)

They're all running Windows Mobile so it should be a doddle to get them working together

The fact that the Sat nav on the MiTo is the same as the 500 tells me that the B&M systems can't be too different (the MiTo is just a GP in drag)

Having had a look down my B&M port in the dash it doesn't just look like power to me either, to me it looks like a non-standard USB connection.

Now this is not definitive proof but it seems legit to me

@ 2:14 it even displays B&M on the screen so I think it pretty fair to say that it works. Not sure if it has 100% of the functionality that it would have in the Punto Evo but we won't know till someone tries

nice find!

he is in a fiat dealer too, not that i can understand anything.

so its confirmed that the GPS port can NOT be retro fitted to one that doesnt have it from factory??

I think I have already written the following for at least hundred times but I don't care...
So currently we've got 2 different nav systems for the 500:
- B&M MAP
- B&M TomTom

Currently only the MAP is integrated into the sytems of the 500 so if you buy the new B&M TomTom than you can plug it into the that hole on the dash (sorry don't know how do you call it, Fiat calls option 54K) if you have it. But due to software issues the B&M in the 500 will not recognize that the nav system is plugged into that hole. Of course it will power on because the TomTom dash dock has the same pinout like the MAP dash dock.
I also mentioned earlier that if you would like to know more and up to date information about this topic visit the B&M section at cinquecentisti.com forum. I know it is an italian page but google translate is your friend. I also don't speak italian but with the help of that translate tool I can understand many things. So on that B&M section there is a guy who is working for Fiat as a B&M software developer and according to him we will have a pretty big B&M software update which WILL contain the update for the TomTom nav. So sit back and wait until that update and until that use the TomTom nav as a standalone nav. At least you don't have wires around your dashboard which is a pretty good think imho...

Yes but I don't mean to be rude, but it's one thing for someone to say on a forum yeah it works etc etc and it's another thing to see a video of it. The guy hasn't replied to my message on his video so we don't know if the functionality works at all.

Maxi, nobody said that it works, but it will ;)
Those videos originally posted on the fiat500blog.de site few months ago and basically they just showed us that the device powered on properly on the same dash hole where you plugged the B&M MAP so you've got a working standalone nav system but it cannot connect to the B&M system, but as soon as we have some offical updates from Fiat hopefully it will work.
Anyway the cinquecentisti community has a pretty good relationship with Fiat and also the mentioned guy has already provided a new version (5.4.11) which is really not an official version but at least fixed a many issues what we experienced in the 5.4.9 official version.
Hopefully Fiat will release something official soon so we will be able to use a good nav system with B&M.
