Hi,
I have a new Abarth 500 EsseEsse and the screen options are listed in Italian. However the voice commands are in English, as are the Dash menu options (Passenger Airbag settings etc).

I have tried to update the system with software release 5.4, however when I try this I get the on screen error 'error:10'. To overcome this error I have tried the following:

  • Re-setting B&M by disconnecting the battery and then trying the re-install.
  • Using another new Sandisk Cruzer USB stick.
  • Installing eco-Drive, downloading the data from B&M and then trying the 5.4 update.
  • I even tried updating the voice language to English again to see if by some small chance this would also change the screen language but it didn't, however the language update did work!
My dealer has spoken to their technicians and they are of the perception that the Blue&Me unit may be faulty and needs replacing. Unfortunately my dealer is 140 miles away so I'd rather not travel all that distance if at all possible. In addition, it seems flipping crazy that it isn't easy to alter the language in a simple way. I have read on here that others have had a similar issue. Does anyone know how the problem was actually resolved please (other than take back to dealer)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Rich.

Collected my Abarth yesterday and when I checked it over, I had exactly the same issue. Dealer says it needs a new "brain"! Had to take the car with a warranty claim on day 1 - not a great start to my ownership and FIAT dealer experience :( I was still going to try the firmware update myself. Will post the results later today.

PS. The Brain is already on back order, so I get the impression we are not the only ones!

I will try this, but the it does say that "...The procedure does not change del language of the texts displayed on the DashBoard of the car", which is my problem.
In the meantime, thanks for your help. I will let you know how I get on.
Fingers crossed!

So tried it....

... Update Started
... Update Complete

But alas no change. Voice still in English and dash still in Italian :(

Any other suggestions?

Appreciate your help.

So dealer replaced the B&M unit with a brand new one - did not fix the problem.
So dealer then swapped by B&M unit with another one from an Abarth 500 without the problem... did not fix my problem!
The concluded that it is specific to the car CPU/ Brain and not the B&M unit.
They are now waiting on FIAT Tech to come back to them with an answer!
Will keep you posted.

error messages are in italian, time is not language specific (;)) not tried date. Will take a look and repor back.

Check out this thread/ post:

Turns out there may be a fix...

"..There is a download available for this problem, it is only available through the teseo site at dealerships. Dealer needs to look up recall campaign 5344 and run through service news 55.44.08 of 07/11/08,
this will take them to the correct download the file is Bonifica C1_199Small2_Europa.zip (european nations except turkey)."

Fingers crossed. Will get on to the dealer tomorrow to see if it solves the problem!
