Hi

Has anybody connected a hard drive to the USB port in Blue and ME?
I have a 60GB IPOD that is playing up and I have seen a mini hard drive with 250GB cheap,....... so I thinking about trying it? Will it work? Does not need power only has one USB connecter.
Any thoughts......:slayer::slayer::slayer:

Im sure you probably could but the time it would take you to flick through the songs one by one would make it totally pointless. i have a 4GB usb stick at the moment and never have enough time to get through all the songs.

if there is no power supply within the hard drive, then it wont work, coz the usb wont put enough power out to run it, thats why you tend to need the two usb2 ports!! and a usb drive is solid state so it needs very little power!! whereas the ipod obviously uses a battery supply!!;)

I use a hard drive in mine and i love it. USB sticks work ok but if you can get a hard drive then it's worth it. You will need a power source and a data cable- but this is easily solved with an adapter that plugs in to the cigarette lighter next to the hand brake. You can buy them from PC world. Will try to find one in a second. It's worth doing. I just plug it in to my computer when i have a load more music and save it straight on there. No hassle and never have to touch it or change anything. I recommend doing it (y)

You can get External HD's that are powered through the USB port now....

Thanks all, would like to get all my music in the car so will try the hard drive route

I used to run a HDD in my bravo but It was too much hassle, most of the time the B&M wouldn't detect it and required me to turn off the HDD and turn it back on.

it's also easy to damage the HDD in the car, it's not supposed to move when working.
Also because of the double power input required, in some cases only one of them is active and makes the HDD turn very slowly trying to read data, which also is not good.

HDD, Really annoying.

I'd advise you to stick with your ipod or get a good USB drive.

I haven't had a single problem using a hard drive in 2 cars with blue and me. Only down side i had was having a wire to the power socket. But you can hide it easily enough.

If you want a crazy amount of music like me then a hard drive is great. If not, then a large usb stick is the better option. The hard drive is only better if your having to swop over USB sticks all the time.

Works fine for me. Some hard drives come with a second cable for additional power: I bought a 160GB Lacie drive. It took 2 hours to build the index, so that was 2 hours with the car in the drive with the ignition on. I just run in Dice Man mode all the time - with 100GB of mp3s it's the only way I'm ever going to hear some of it. Let the car decide. What I want now is a way to hide the drive and wires away out of sight. I've seen a post on how to add a hidden usb port to a Bravo, but has anyone tackled this yet for a 500? I want a hidden usb port and power port & somewhere out of sight to hide the drive. And there aren't many places to hide stuff in a 500!
