phone compatibilty

I have been looking down the list of phones and it seems that non of these are available from my provider, but phones with higher or similar numbers are (eg - the Nokia N70 is on the list, but provider offers a N95, which isn't on the list. Nokia 6630 or 6680 on the list, but offered a 6650)

Is the list a list of modern phones or is it several months old? I know that my son has a phone on the maybe list and that is nearly 4 years old. Is there a minimum spec ie bluetooth release, that I need to look for?

hope this makes sense
