It is the fourth time this fault happens and I am getting rather tired with it.

I plugged my USB stick in the glovebox USB port and it will not start. When I go through the menus and choose Media Player I get the message no media found.

I noticed that when I plug the stick in, it does not flash at all, seems the USB port is dead again!

I read all relevant pages on Fiatforum and so far I understand that the only way to get it working is by disconnecting the battery and that there is a Microsoft update issued in Autumn 2007. Surely this update would have sorted everything out?

Last time I went to the dealer with this fault was in February 2008. The car is going back to them for the 9th time or so (lost count) to fix a few minor warrranty issues, USB port included.

My questions is: how come the USB port in the car keeps going dead?

For the record, I have an 06 Sporting M-Jet (built in March 2006, bought in June 2006 brand new), 31,000 miles, lots of happy times and a fair share of warranty issues!

Have you tried reformatting the USB drive on your computer. It worked for me when i got this message, although I can't say that I noticed if the drive flashed or not.

your USB connection doesn't actually go dead. It just doesn't want to read music from your USB stick. Try using navigation, i bet that works...
If you swap 2 different USB sticks, then everything will work fine again, also using the "random" keyword allows you to listen to music

Im getting exactly the same thing. Ive just tried a long format of my flash drive and will try it again. Though I cant see it working. My drive doesnt go dead, mine has a red light that when plugged in stays on, but when i plug it into the USB port in the glovebox its light flashes intermittently like a light on an aeroplane....

Yuri is spot on with this one (y)

It's quicker and easier than disconnecting the battery. Just keep a spare flash drive in the glovebox with a couple of songs on it (make sure that these songs dont appear on your main flash drive):

- Unplug main flash drive
- Plug secondary flash drive in
- Wait for it to start playing a song and then remove it
- Plug the main flash drive back in and it will start to read it again

I've been keeping a second flash drive in the glovebox for a while now. It's a pain in the a$$ having to do it on a regular basis but it takes less than a minute and it works a treat

You don't even need it to have any music on the drive. I keep a blank flash drive in the glovebox - swap it over for a few seconds and the swap it back. It seems that as long as the media player tries to read it, it is enough to register it.

I haven't had this problem at all since I formatted the flash drive (a few months ago) and re-copied all the music on to it - until this week! It has started with a vengeance again. I am now reformatting the drive in the hope that it will cure it again for another few months.

When ever we have this issue it is because customers have not stopped the media properly. If you have this problem, press voice command and say stop, this will stop the media the blue and me thinks its playing then press voice and say play and everything will work ok.

Just collected my 500 and it won't play anything off 3 IPOD NANOS I have tried on it. You can say what you like to the ****ing thing - it does not make any difference. In fact - if you instruct it to 'stop' it accurately says 'no media playing'. All that ever appears on the IPOD screen is 'connected' - no menus.

Referred bacy to the salesman - consulting with the workshops. As far as 'Blue & Me' is concerned I would imagine this is a long shot!!!!

Its been said a few times that the B&m system wont play any files off a media device that isnt formated in the windows FAT32 system.
Neither will it play any files that have DMR attached, both need to be sorted b4 u can expect the B&M system to play anything other than "no media found" !!

Georgios was referring to a usb stick intermittently stopping from working. not a new device not working with a car. Good luck Mike, i cant undersatnd anyone using an expensive ipod when a usb stick is easily cheaper and can be left permanently in the car except for updating.

Understanding is the key word here.

I can just about understand how to put songs onto my IPOD and I was (optimistically, it seems), just expecting to plug my IPOD in and play it though the Interscope System.

Should not be too much to ask, surely, and the Blue & Me book just says 'connect it and playback will start immediatly'.

So what am I doing wrong?

Expecting Microsoft to work with Apple, although from the descriptions your justified in "expecting it to work". Im the same way with the mechanics!

This forum has alot of useful info though, have a read around for a few hours and you should soon pick up how to get the two to talk. !! or you'll buy a memory stick!

Updated to 5.5 B & m with no problems, update succsessful.

I now have this problem, disconecting battery does not change anything.

It seems that no power is being provided to the usb hub

have tried 5 different sticks and iphone with new connector, all no medai found, tried voice commands with same results.

Checked for dust but port seem clean.

Bluetooth works,

any help would be appreciated, it is going in to fiat for a proxy allinment reset as after the B &B M update the milage started to flash, could be releated??

Can reapply the update as port no longer recognises sticks

found the problem,

it was and is the little black bit of plastic which protects the four usb metal contacts in the hub had snapped..

so I assume caused a short which may have casued the flashing millage??

needs to be replaced anyway.

The rubber port cover or something else? Because B&M in my GP just went bonkers a couple of days ago.

It cycles the stick (starts flashing, stops and starts again), and still says no media found. This started on thursday, i used a new stick on tuesday - it didn't recognize it at all. On thursday the mileage flashed and B&M didn't work even a little, neither music, BT for the phone or menus worked. On friday the BT and menus started working, but no dice with the USB. Today after another no media found (saturday) i reformatted both drives and put a single MP3 on them (though it was the same) and still no dice.

No media is found, the mileage started flashing again, the menus barely work, etc.

The software version is still 5.4, since it only accepts a single USB to do the update, which i don't have at home.

Is the thing dead or what?? I'll try the battery trick tomorrow and if that doesn't help a blind try for an update to 5.5. Hopefully that fixes everything, including better voice support.
