fiat ducato campervan gearchange

Posted 11-06-2012 at 17:56 by kirlyg

Hi all, I have had a 1987 campervan for 6 months, tweaking tho all the little probs but having great fun, but have an erratic gearbox. Sometimes it is fine, then suddenly becomes incredibly difficult to change gear. Then next drive it's ok again (as ok as an old van can be.) but does make a 'clip' sound but I guess that's its age. Have changed rear engine mounting, adjusted clutch, checked gearbox oil (is golden and full). Driving country lanes in traffic with hills has become v stressful! Could understand if this was all the time as old gearbox, but confused. Gearchange no prob with engine off. Maybe I should change gearbox oil anyway, or clutch fluid?? Thanks for any advice in advance

    RE: fiat ducato campervan gearchange

Try here in a previous post, has all info about the gear selector on the old ducatos -
From the Talbot Express Owners Club Website where it originated from along with lots of other info on them & the older model Ducatos - check "Home page" top right corner link. There is also a Talbot express forum on there as well.
    Hope that helps

    Hi Welcome to the forum
Not sure whether you are after the Workshop Manual for the Ducato 244 or the owners manual for the Auto-trail some of which are on their website -
If you are after the Ducato 244 WSM then the downloads section has the X250 & X244 eLearn WSM on there as well as owner handbooks for download.
They are unavailable at the moment due to website testing but were in a split RAR file so you had to download each separate one the extract the single ISO file from them burn it to a CD as an ISO, then install it on your system, sounds complicated but isn't if you know what your doing.
You can also get the 244 eLearn from here in 1 single 113MB RAR file which contains the eLearn ISO (which is an image of a eLearn CD) as above -
    - go to the bottom of page & select slow download.
Here is my previous post on how to do it -
Will do a more step by step on how to extract & burn the ISO to CD on the Ducato forum soon.
    Cheers hope that helps

    1997 Ducato 10 Motorhome
    Hello there,
I have just joined the Forum as I have just purchased a 1997 Fiat Ducato and I am already struggling to find info on the vehicle...possibly due to its age. I am hoping that someone may be able to assist.

The first query is in regards to the code light on the dash an the Red Key.
When I collected the vehicle from the dealer I noticed that the code light was lit. I queried this but the sales guy said that possibly the system needed re-setting but he was unsure how to do it, and of course there was no mechanic available. He did however stress the importance of not losing the Red Key.
As the vehicle started ok I agreed to take the vehicle and to question their mechanic when he was available. The code light was not on when I test drove the vehicle on purchase but they had to service it etc before collection and on that service, they replaced the battery.

On arrival home, I wondered if the battery in the red key was flat, so I opened it up. However there was no battery or any circuitry in the key.

I suspect that they have bypassed the security system because they have replaced the vehicle battery and were unable to reset the code.

I am really concerned that this will cause me problems in the future when the vehicle is out of warranty.

I would really appreciate your opinions on this matter as I have really no knowledgeabout this system and of the possible consequences.

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi, i have a 2005 2.8 JTD Ducato. In February a mechanic said i needed a new water pump which he bought from a reputable fiat dealer then realises he didn't have the facilities to replace it. I had another mechanic, who has been great with my other car VWEOS, replace it. The part and the replacement cost a bomb. I went to have the car checked prior to doing a long t 3000k trip, as was told by the same mechanic that the water pump wasn't working???? When i said 'you just replaced that' they said it was the part. When i called the Fiat parts place they said they wouldn't talk to me about it, they wanted to speak with the mechanic. My question is what should i do? Who is likely to be a fault? The new warter pump part or the installl? How can i find out? Please help
Also, i have just driven the van 500kms, with no problem, no noise and no visible overheating issues which i see are the main signs of a broken water pump.
