Im looking at buying some alloys for my Cinq- 13" as I dont want to lower it- because if I do, I'll be raped by my insurers.

The std. 13" wheels have tyres that are 165/55VR13, but im looking at some tyres that are 155/60VR13.

So these are slightly narrower, but with a greater sidewall size, so the rolling diameter of the wheel will increase by about 0.8%.

This may impact the speedo reading slightly, but thats no major prob, but do you think it'd affect the handling at all??

the bigger the wheel the poorer the acceleration

Acceleration isnt really a issue!!

You drive a 'cento and should know that it only accelerates really (neck snapping) well if properly floored!!

Grip will probably be reduced with narrower and taller tyres.

It wasn't clear from your post if you understand how the profile measurement works.

The "height" of the sidewall is measured by a combination of the profile and the width. So a 205/50 tyre will have a smaller sidewall than a 255/50 tyre.

Therefore although your new tyres would have a higher profile, because theyre thinner, the actual height of the tyre will be not significantly taller.

Again, forgive me if you already knew this but it wasn't clear from your post.

Differences that small will have minimal effects on handling unless you regularly take the cinq to its limits, and even then you'd probably have to be Schumacher to notice!

Why not go for 175/50 13's?

Is 175\50VR13 Actually possible? I found much to my dismay that std. 13" tyres are actually 145\70VR13!!

That would mean a lot more grip 145--> 175, non?

175/50/r13's are mint. they'll hold the road better than the standard wheels cos of the wider profile. go mad and get 185/50/r13's! even better!!

oops - didn't read that properly. If you're on standard SX steel rims, the 175/50's may not fit, they look a little wide on Sporting alloys as it is.

oh dear! Buy a set of sporting alloys then buy tyres!

Or, the 165/55/13's (sporting tyres) should whack straight on to the SX steel rims.

but buy ALLOYS!!!

They're all kerbed due to the previous owner (a woman ) but I don't want that much for them. Let me know if ya interested

Brickfoot, some Cinqs did come with 165/55R13- The Haynes thing I have has tyre pressures for it!
