I've only just found this site today and think its a great idea. I've been looking for something similar for a few months.

The only other section under the Marea on the site which has posts to it is the problem section. No other contributions have been made so I thought I'd kick it off in general terms and talk about my Marea.

I'm in Ireland and there are precious few other Mareas on the Irish roads as far as I can see. I think it is a fabulous looking car quite distinct from the others in the class which all seem to be modelled on the same bland curves.

There's quite a bit of poke in her too. I have the 1.8 HLX DOHC version. I also think that the 1.8 HLX is a particularly rare beast also as none of the online insurance brokers even have a category covering it. Also, at the petrol station (gas station for the US element on this site) where you can put air in the tyres the 1.8 HLX is not listed for tyre pressure.

It also has all the electrics and many creature comforts. If there are any other Marea drivers out there get posting.

Regards,

Tom

I've got 2. I have a 97 Weekend (estate)1.6SX which is a bit lacking oin the creature comforts department, but looks pretty from the outside, its bright red with 5 spoke alloys and has the old style black handles and mirrors which I actually like. The other is a 2000 Marea 155 ELX in metallic orange, its the fun car which I only drive on weekends. The girlfriend gets to use it during the week cos' I drive a fair few miles to work. The difference in fuel consumption is huge so I use the 1.6. I've had problems with both cars but I still love them and think there bloody stunning to look at (even the estate)

Do you know about the BRAVO FORUM?
It deals with all things Bravo/Brava/Marea you should check it out.
You should find it here [ http://welcome.to/TheBravoForum ]

Hiya Ben, Do ya think ownning two Marea's is a good enough reason to make me moderator. I've not moderated a forum before but I'm fairly intelligent, have a bit of computer knowledge, and I know a fair bit about Marea's.
Oh, and I hate Stilo's so it might be an idea to keep me away from the guys who like 'em. I think I've upset some of them already.
But seriously, if you want me to do it get in touch.

I own a `98 Marea Weekend 1.8 ELX in blue, any ideas on styling, alloys, accessories or such like would be much appreciated. cheers.

Lotuscorty,

There is a website that I found recently where you can choose the car you drive and a picture of it comes up. YOu can then choose different alloy styles that "fit" the car so you can have a look at what style you most like and see which is best, to your taste of course. You can chose the colour of the car and all that jazz.

You'll probably kill me now but I cant remember the address. It was a German site I think but if you do a bit of surfing you should find it easily enough. THere are a few alloy sites out there.

Regards other styling and accessories outside of this I'm not one for changing a car that much. Different alloys and replacing the badges when they wear off (a problem I'm having at the moment) is about as far as I'd go with mods etc.

The Mighty, thanks for the link, I'll check it out. I'm not a big fan of estate cars and that also goes for the Weekend, but its merely a style issue and not a driving/handling one. I'd like a diesel version of the Marea due to the relatively high mileage I drive. However, cash is a concern at the moment so I'll have to make do with someone elses spec if I change as I couldn't buy new and Mareas are rare in Ireland. There are a few Weekends alright and I t6hink most others are 1.6 ex's. Very few larger engines over here in it.

Got to go guys, good talking with ya,

Tom

Hi. You can actually visit www.auto-extreme.com or www.alessio.it

Both of them have that feature on their website. Choose a car and see how it looks like with the alloys.
Cheers.

Tom,

If you can remember the site you were on I would be most grateful, I can`t seem to find it! as for the styling I`m only looking for a cheap source for dealer fit accessories not fibreglass bumpers and that sort of rubbish.

Gurjit,

Thanks for the links, the Alessio one is of more use as it has a marea, but only a choice of their wheels. Thanks.

Hi folks, i've recently bought a Marea weekend HLX 2.0ltr, 20v est. So far so good, everything i need in a car, brilliant boot space and excellent specs, nice engine, well impressed.
Nice site by the way, keep up the good work !

Just acquired Marea Weekend 100TD ELX - wife, dog and baby girl to transport/support!
I'm looking for cheap, easy mods that will decrease fuel consumption and/or increase power without having to inform insurance companies (so no 'chipping').
Just simple, common-sense advice.
I believe that simply changing to a K&N air filter will improve things a tad, any more than that I just don't know.
Does anyone have experience of these airflow attachments that help 'spiral' the air before hitting the engine?
What about those magnetic devices that 'align' or 'ionise' the fuel on it's way in?
Are these devices from the 'Innovations' catalogue school of motoring or proven technologies that the car companies just haven't yet embraced fully!
Your thoughts please.
Nibbos

hi Nibbos,

Three things U mentioned won't help U to reduce the fuel consumption
1. for K&N filter will reduce your maintenance cost bcos of the K&N filter is washable as compared to paper type.U can reused this filter many times.
2. Installing spining air gadget, will only effective for high speed, but for normal speed between 60kph to 120kph no significant in fuel economy.
3. Ionise the fuel....still it wont justify the cost U fix it and the fuel economy claims by the vendor. In theory it sound promising but practically all nonsense.

(i've tested all of them!)

4.The best way is to service your car at interval specify in manual
5.Chechk your tyre pressure
6.Check your wheel alignment
7.While driving, try to engage at high gear as possible.
8. Fill your gas early in the morning. You will get more fuel!!!! due to the characteristic of the petrol.

Happy Motoring. Regards

hi mareaisti,

i own a 2000' marea weekend 105 jtd sx, modified with 205/50 15" on "dezent" alloys, "mad" rear springs for pull a caravan, and headlights from an ELX, and a switzerland alpintech injection-modul coupled with a K&N.
consumption:
city with climacontrol on 7,2 l
german highway (130-200 km/h) 7,4 l
holiday travel with caravan (knaus suedwind 1300kg) thrue D and NL 8 l
thrue B (120 km/h) 9,5 l diesel

i think for the power is ok, but my wife needs one litre more...

look at www.fiat-marea.de for pictures from other marea freaks in german spoken countries.

greetz to all

henkor

there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers
excuse my bad English, please

Are all car manufacturers' R&D in this world that stupid in inventing air filter?
How that easy just changing the K&N filter, it can reduce the car fuel consumption?

There are no stupid questions & stupid answers as well in this forum. It just an opinion based on experience and reading. Stupidity came from egoism reader.

excuse my bad English, please..........

Subija,

Don't be upset, your answers to Marea Weekend 100TD ELX is not a stupid answer but you made mistake on the petrol & diesel version. I think 100TD ELX is for diesel version. However thanks for the participations in this forum.

Just to highlight; giving an opinion with mistake answer is not stupid but saying people giving a stupid answer & participate less, he/she is an idiot.

Cheers

p/s I'm aware of the petrol characteristic during cold weather & K&N filter and spiral air do increase HP but not fuel economy.

sorry @ all,

because my signature: "there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers". this is a german saying and means that a question can never be stupid, but it is easy to give stupid answers.

excuse my bad English, please

Hi <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>
I'm new to this forum as I am about to buy a Marea Weekend in July, as you have a 1.6 what is your general fuel consumption?. I have been offered the choice of two 1.6 Weekends both Y reg and was wondering how economical they would be on long runs.
I nearly bought a Passat till I saw how cheap a Marea is to buy, any thing to lookout for when I'm choosing one?.

Regards Gordon

Hi,
I have a 2001 1.6 elx automatic.
Unfortunatly with the newer mareas you don't seem to get the alloys any more.
The cheapest quote I have had for a set of marea alloys was £513 and the were second hand from a breakers.
As for the auto box it's a bit sluggish out of first gear when the box is cold but once its warmed up its quite smooth.
Other than that it's a great looking car and it,s quite quick as well.

Happy driving and if anyone knows of any alloys going for a decent price let me know in the parts wanted section of the forum

We have a Marea 2.0l 20V - about 4 years old. We love it but we have no manual for it and we have no idea what the warning lights mean. we have one that keeps appearing in the middle of the rev counter - a small orange bulb with an exclamation mark in the middle - help?!!
Can someone tell us something about it?
Love you to bits if you can
Edd n Jane

Hi all, just got myself a Marea Weekend HLX 2.0 20v and I'm really pleased with it so far, especially for the price - these things are really cheap considering what you get!
If anybody out there knows anything about the alarm system, I've posted a question in the Technical section - answers appreciated!

In answer to ednj's question, I've just had a look in my manual and the description of the lights ad-verbatim is as follows:

"With the ignintion turned to MAR, the Check Panel will check and signal the following when it is switched on:

2) a burnt out bulb in the sidelights and/or numberplate lights by lighting yellow warning light H"
(this is the one you want I think, it's a yellow bulb with an exclamation mark inside it)

There's more to do with blown bulbs and the two STOP lights indicating faults with the rear lights and fog lights, I'll scan the page and e-mail it to you if you like.

Hope this helps.:D
