Hi all,

Does anyone know how to reactivate the stereo as it comes up saying ´safe´but never allows the pin to be entered! i have disconected the battery and reconneted but still it only says ´safe´ ...i have also used the red key to see if this helps in the ignition but still only ´safe´ :bang: the handbook is german so maybe i am doing something wrong. i have the pin number on a special light blue card with handbook but maybe the pin has been changed or something by a previous keeper....any ideas

Cheers Mark (y)

A guess - normally when it says safe it is locked for between 20-40 minutes before it will let you enter the code. This has been my experience with other radios. Might be worth a try.

From what I remember it works in some illogical way using the tuning keys.

I think it is something like - press the number 1 key x times where x is the first number of the code e.g. if it is 4 then press number 1 4 times. Then use key 2 for the second number and key 3 for the 3rd number, key 4 for the 4th number etc.

Cheers

Hmm, my newly acquired B has original stereo (what's that funny little slot for? :-D) locked in SAFE mode.
Based on my German manual, I'm guessing I should hold down the FM button until it shows CODE, then enter the numbers as Lee describes, using the preset buttons. I have the code cards, but I can't get to the point where it asks for the code. The FM key doesnt do anything.

Any suggestions?

I think you have to leave the stereo powered up for a while to get it from 'safe' to 'code'.

Go for a drive for a hour or so with it powered on:)

Cheers John. I had it on for about an hour I think, but I'll try again when/if I get it back from DTR....

Still baffled by this. After waiting 24 hours the display changed to "9 ----". I can enter 4 digits using the preset keys, as described, each "-" changing to the number. But the code I have is 5 digits!

Can anyone shed any light?

Can't help on the code this (though what Lee says makes sense - my code on the Audi works in exactly the same way) - but I was going to ask a related question about the FM. I have nothing on that either, just the MW. Someone told me this is because there is no FM on the continent! Is that right - and if so, can the original radios be set up to receive FM does anyone know?

No FM on the continent?? What a load of rubbish!!
It sound as if there is something wrong with your stereo Gill, maybe it's time to invest in a better unit?

Had a feeling that wasn't the case! All I really need is an iPod connector - but don't trust Carphone Warehouse or the like to fit it . . . any ideas where I could get that done??

Thanks DJ, yes, have got one of those but sound quality is not brilliant (not that you can hear it that well over the sound of the car!) and the white cable keep getting stuck in the eject mechanism  Would be nice to do it properly. One of the Barchettas I went to look at before I got mine had a proper adaptor wired in and it did look better too!

Most modern head units have the option to connect and ipod properly these days. Although mostly only a line in on the front, and not an actual IPOD interface.

You just need to get a new head unit, the IPOD Interface and the fascia adapter. Pull out the old stereo and slot in the new head unit with the fascia adapter. The wiring just connects straight into the head unit with no modification needed (In mine I didn't anyway!).

Then just feed the ipod connector, from the back of the head unit out somewhere. Maybe under the gear stick and hand brake into the center console box or something.

The IPOD adapter for most head units is about £50 and a compatible head unit is probably about £100ish quid.

Something like that. ;-)

Other option is the iTrip FM Transmitter...

Great, thanks, think that's the best option. Thought the FM thingy might work if I can ever get my FM working!!
