Installing ABS to a non ABS car

The major drawback in my B, is that it is not fitted with ABS. At first I didn't care but driving fast and braking hard wears the front tyres very quickly. Does anyone know if it is possible to install ABS now, since the car is designed to have it as an extra option?
Many thanks

Re: Installing ABS to a non ABS car

Hi
You will need to get your hands on an old cheap B with ABS or a crashed one as the list of parts you will need are going to be long. It can be done !!

I have the same kind of thing with air con, I would like to add it to my B but I need to get a crash B with aircon, its the only way to do it.

Re: Installing ABS to a non ABS car

Maybe a daft question, but unless you test it on slippery surface, how do you know whether the model you've got has ABS? Mine skidded pretty good this year in the snow, so assume t isn't fitted but the dash still has a warning light (never lit).

They're still laughing now aren't they?

Maybe invest in a trackday with instructor.. You will learn to drive fast without locking up and wasting your tyres. It will be a whole lot cheaper than trying to retro-fit ABS and I'd imagine the experience will be much more enjoyable too.

Re: Installing ABS to a non ABS car

Easiest way to check whether you have ABS is look under the bonnet!!
There will be an aluminium block with brake pipes coming out of the top of it in the top right of the engine bay

Or sensors on the hub carrier watching the notched hub go around.

Driving fast is actually better with NO ABS.
The only reason I wanted to look into the possibility of ABS was to avoid wheel lock = tire wear when stupid idiots block your way.
Part exchanging my B for another just for the ABS is no good for me cause finding another with 2x Airbags and A/C is hard. Plus, I ve spent quite a bit on this one, so i ll stick with Absent Blocking System

Re: Installing ABS to a non ABS car

You have 2x Airbags and A/C but no ABS, what a funny Barchetta build set-up. It could have been a demo car or something like that.

Heh! True!
From all the options available its only missing the leather seats and ABS. If it was a demo car, then someone has swapped out my leathers!!
What are the chances that it has ABS but it just doesn't work?

Have you looked for the sensors or the control unit yet?
