Has anyone upgraded their brakes?

Went out for a spin tonight as we have some really good windy country roads. It was superb and I throghly enjoyed it BUT it wasn't long before I got some brake fade followed by the smell of burning front pads so coasted for a while to let them cool. I've also noticed it's a bit twitchy at speed in these narrow lanes I won't say what speed but never the less

Cornering is superb it really does hug the bends :worship: and is a fabulous little car to drive overall.

So it drives well, looks superb, handles like a dream. But brakes are not vented enough and is a little twitchy at times.......so any idea's ?

I have tar-ox 40 grove disks and pads on mine with braided hoses all round with a dot 5fluid. The bite and stopping power I have is immense. Although I do have ABS too. The pads do produce a little dust though. And I periodically clean the groves on the disc surface. I would buy tar-ox there the same as red dot but cheaper.

I've just had a look at the TAR OX dics and they look OK could you use green stuff pads or are they too soft?

I guess you could use any compound you want.. ebc are good.. good as any. I would stay away from racing compounds though you maybe better with the red stuff

Hi
You say you have braided hoses all round and you have ABS, can you tell me what set you have, I have not been able to find a set of braided hoses for ABS Barchetta.

I don't think his is a barchetta, I'm sure it's a punto turbo.

Why not get a set made up the hose will be on the real, & the unions should be available to do this. I'm not sure but maybe a motorbike shop that builds up break pipes could help.

you can get braided hoses made up per application

FYI, I fitted non-ABS brake hoses onto my 1999 ABS Barchetta and I had no problems with it. I fitted Goodridge brakeline kit.

Ps The picture is wrong, you get 6 brake lines in the Barchetta kit. Two front and four back.

I have seen a few front brake upgrade kits (see link below) but as its going to be around £1000 (ish) for a set !!! I was thinking, does anyone know if the Fiat coupe 2.0 Turbo Brembo calipers and discs will fit the Barchetta ?? That way getting hold of a second hand set would more like £300. (ish)

FYI the Barchetta front discs are: 257mm Diam and 20mm thick.

If they do fit ( and I dont know if they will), then you would also have to consider the clearance around the wheels

I dont have that problem I can get my head inside the space I have around the discs now heheheheheheh ehhehhe

I could change the pads without taking the wheels off hehehehehehe
