Technical Fitting a Fiat Coupe 2.0 turbo engine in a Barchetta

Has anyone looked into the possibility of fitting a Coupe 2.0 turbo into a Barchetta?

I have not been able to have a good look round a coupe to see if the engine will fit, but the block is the same.

Is it possible and if so has anyone done it?

I very much doubt it due to the size of the engine, from my understanding the barchetta engine bay isnt very big. I could be wrong, its just my opinion

Or you could be right on the ball - the 1.8 16v engine is a tight fit anyway, with an extra cylinder you've no chance.

I would look at 16v turbo lumps or charging your existing lump .

I have heard of turbos for the bacrhetta but, just keep the engine you have and fit a burbo to it.

Its not as easy as just bolting on a turbo and the cost can be $$$$ !! E.g. new pistons so on ... Putting in a original turbo lump is a lot cheaper and more reliable but making sure it fits before splashing out on a second hand engine is a key point.

Hi, i've got a punto hgt and was interested in putting the coupe 16vt lump in that, the gearbox on the 1.8 engine bolts straight up to the coupe lump so you'd only need to fabricate one engine mount. Whether the box can take the extra power i don't know?

cool thats good news, once I am sure it fits I will get hold of a second hand lump and overhaul it before fitting it.

I am sure this has been mentioned here before. The alfa romeo 2.0 twin spark engine is very very similar to the Barchetta engine in all aspects apart from the head I am sure one of those would fit. even the mounts look the same

If you look closely you can see it does look almost the same as the B lump.

Only problem is its only a 2.0 non turbo unit giving out 150HP@6,800 RPM

The lump in the B gives 130.00 BHP (95.7 KW) @ 6300.00 at stock so is the 2.0 Alfa engine the best choice ??

still a 20bhp gain plus im guessing torque is very healthy too

Cinq owners do 1108>1242 swaps for a 6bhp gain but is a fair sized torque gain too

The 1.8 t spark is the same engine except the heads diffrent, the bottom ends the same. I've also heard that the 2ltr t spark is a poor engine.

Actually, the Dedica Prototype had the 16vT engine from Fiat Coupe 2,0 16vT
this one is a 4 cylinder engine, which in contrary to the 5cyl 20vT, should fit to the Bs engine bay

Sounds an exciting project.

I remember a discussion once on this topic in a thread on another forum.

The opinion was that it could fit in the b engine bay but then the gearbox, transmission, brakes and exhaust would all then have to be upgraded to handle the extra power.

I dont put my hand in the fire, but I m pretty sure the best bet is to fit a LANCIA INTEGRALE 2.0lt TURBO engine in the B! ( it should also be easier to find as many people have wrecked that car, at least here in greece )

LANCIA INTEGRALE 2.0lt TURBO cars in the UK are not easy to find, plus the engine will have been given some stick thats for sure.

I also did hear that this engine will go in a B.

this sounds like a good project very simular to what i intend to do with the fiat tipo sedicivalvole i've just bought. i'm planning on a coupe 16vt or lancia thema 16vt lump at some point in the future so would like to see how this turns out.
i've also herd of a 20vt engine in a tipo, afterall the coupe was based on the old tipo.
