Among all my brothers stuff, there is an ODB II cable and adaptor to the b

Can anybody point me on the direction of some software which I can use with it?

Main problem is that my airbag light is on, which, I presume will be an MoT failure and I need to either reset it, switch it off or whatever I can do to get the light on

Oh, and an instruction manual

Hi, do a search for FiatEcuScan software. The free version should be okay for what you need. There is a comprehensive explanation on this forumn on connecting to the car. Try a few searches for the setting of the airbag light and you might get the info, I cannot remember the thread at the mo. Someone else may pitch in with help. Good luck SteveD

You are ok, even better, with that cable and a laptop. If you want, I can send you FiatEcuScan.
You have there even a 3 pin adaptor (by the look of it) which you can use on older cars.

I just tried it with this

http://www.multiecuscan.net/

But it wouldn’t connect

I am using the connector which is under the roof release lever, is this right? It goes straight into a blank socket in the pillar under the floor mechanics
I'm no b expert but finding the diagnostic connector locations often comes up as difficult. From memory there could be several different connectors hidden around the car. Each connector for a different ecu.
the crocodile clips on the adaptor need to be connected correctly and sometimes the laptop has difficulty finding the port the obd11 adapter is on.

You need to be more specific. For me the roof release lever is the rear hood release lever and that connector is for the hard top rear screen heater!

What connector have you found and EXACTLY where in the car?

The interface is a KL type, sometimes called a VAG-COM. It will work with Multiecuscan (MES). You need to make sure the serial port drivers are loaded as well as MES. The croc clips on the adaptor lead have to be connected to a 12V supply on the car. The connector for the engine ECU is under the bonnet. Some later cars had an OBDII socket and don't need the adaptor for the engine. All models need the adaptor lead for the ABS and airbag. Each ECU has it's own connector.

I’ll take a photo tomorrow, but there is a 3 pin connector behind the drivers seat on the pillar underneath the plastic cover for the hood hinge point (does that make sense?)

I can’t find any other 3 pin connector which could be used anywhere

After more investigation, it seems the connector I was trying is the power for a heated rear screen in the hardtop

I need to keep looking for the right connector.

Seems crazy that the adaptor has crocodile clips for 12v and ground. It aren’t long enough to reach anything!

If you have the 3 pin connector on your car, then the one you are looking for could be under the bonnet, that is where is usually is, some place near the battery, towards the windshield.

When talking about location of connectors, first thing to mention is the manufacturing year of your car.
On my 1996 the engine ECU connector is in the passenger footwell, airbag connector should be there as well (never used it), and the ABS connector is near the ABS module in engine compartment (I have old ABS version that cannot be read by MES).

Hi,
Is your air bag ecu diagnostic connector yellow? May help original poster

So, after nearly breaking my back to get an angle to find the plug, I have now found it :)

Now all I need to know is how to reset the airbag warning light.

Got the software, got the cable, then what?

Search this forum, there are plenty of topics about airbag light and usage of trw2scan.
AFAIK it is not possible to reset the light with standard tools like MES.

I think it depends on the year....I managed to reset mine using the free multi scan...a while ago now. I do remember the adapter switch has to be set in the ‘engine’ setting rather than airbag. I just played around in the airbag part of the software until I found a module option that would connect. There is some setting up of the USB port on your laptop to do first, there are instructions on the multi scan website.

Mines a 99 model with dual air bags, from what I gather other ones are not necessarily as straight forward - good luck

Now I have a problem!

Got the trw2scan software and followed a video I found on how to use it

Went through the steps and then said Y to clear faults, so was looking good, but then, turned the ignition off, waited a few seconds & turned it back on and the light is still on

I have booked the MoT for Monday next week, so need to sort it out quickly & I don't think a bit of black tape over the light will get it through the MoT

I have read loads of topics about it in here & it seemed I was doing everything right. The only thing I haven't tried is looking at the blink codes as that will have to wait for the weekend

So, does this mean there is a problem with the airbag???? (I hope not!)

Any thoughts will be very helpful

EDIT: Just found another topic which I hadn't seen before and it says that I might have my serial port setup wrong as I have it at 9600bps and it says it needs to be at 115000 - Can anybody confirm that?

I remember seeing posts about having to do the reset twice in a row. Have you tried this?
