Did you connect the red wire to 12v supply? Can you see the red LED lit on your adapter?
Did you run diagnose to make sure MES can see your adapter on COMx port?

1.6 is one I have tried as it came with the adaptor

Yes, red to 12v and black to earth, red light is on, but no connections

And have tried everything on MES setup, everything on every post in here and anywhere else

Right. The black wire is actually not required, the signal ground comes from the 3-pin connector.

Does MES really see your adapter? What does Settings-Interfaces-Scan for interfaces tell you? (I use MES 3.0)
In Setting-Interfaces, do you see interface type "K-Line/VAGCOM"? What COM port is assigned to it? I have COM4 for example.
Have you tried connecting to engine ECU instead? It has same 3-pin connector, located on the right side of passengers footwell. First position on the adapter switch.
As you try to connect, do you have the ignition on? The key must be in last position before starter kicks in.

If everything checks in but still no connect, check for bent pins in connectors. It must work.

I have now disconnected the black wire and still the same

Using multiECUscan v4.7, I have full ability to scan for interfaces, but, it finds nothing

The COM port has been setup in every possible way using ports Com1 - Com8 and everything does the same

The switch on the adaptor has been tried in every position & I am back to the connector under the dashboard which is where I believe it should be

When I run the test of the K-Line / VAGCOM, I get this...

VagCom/KKL

Testing latency with 200 bytes of data...
The operation has timed out.

I am about to give up!

You can try this temp fix until you sort it. Solder two works from ABS lamp to airbag lamp then insulate airbag lamp from its connections in the socket. It worked for me.

I might end up doing that tomorrow!

However, I will have one more go, so want to check the settings

Yellow connector under passenger glove box

Serial port setting 14400bps, latency 1, com1

4 positions on the OBD plug, should be at 2nd position, labelled 3

Connect to car with ignition on, but engine not running

Connect via MultiECUscan - auto detect should see it

If that is all correct, I have tried it loads of times without any connection being successful

If I get a connection, run trw2scan in a dos box and clear errors, presumably it shouldn’t keep getting timeout errors

If I don’t get connected, will pull the dash apart and do the temporary fix so that will not fail the MoT, but, I don’t know if it will fail on anything else, so still fingers crossed

Well you time is short now so best of luck.

That said have you checked here: https://www.fiatforum.com/multiecuscan-members-register/ for someone near to you who may be able to help (probably post MOT now)

They may have no more luck than you (if your airbag ECU is toast) but at least you will get some sort of confirmation etc.

Normally MES should be able to find an interface connected to USB, and choose the corresponding virtual COM port for you.
If it's not the case, chances are the USB-COM driver is not functioning, or is not installed. With driver properly installed, plugging USB connector into computer should create a new COM port in Ports section of Device manager (if using Windows of course).
If some "Unknown device" is created instead, then you need to install USB-COM driver from the CD that came with adapter.

Definitely was setup as a com port, I use serial communication for some work stuff, so am not new to serial port setting up, but this one seems to have beaten me.

If I can get it through the MoT, then I will happily take it to someone to have a look at, but until I get the MoT, I can’t go anywhere in it

Mot in UK seems to be dead serious.
Down here, you can fail the mot and still legally use the car for some time, unless it is a dangerous failure such as brakes. Then you fix it and have second try, free.
And you can drive around without mot, if caught you say you were driving to the nearest mot station (which is allowed).
And if you have airbag light lit, you can always say i know i know, but look how cool this car is, and then you pass if important things are all ok. Year after year I pass with non-existant rear brakes and a good chip on the windshield, just because the car is so cool.

As the car has been off the road for over 10 years, I have no grace period, normally, you can put a car in for an MoT a month before it is due and then if it fails, you can still drive for the Month

You also cannot get away with saying you are on the way to an MoT centre as if you do not have an MoT, you have to have proof of a pre booked MoT to drive it there and it still is questionable if your insurance is valid

Fortunately, the centre is only 2 minutes down the road from me

I am hoping for a friendly tester who may be a bit lenient, but do not want them to pass it if there is a major issue

The yellow one is for the air bag light that is giving you problems, the others without looking on the opposite side (face side)of the instruments I'm not sure. I don't know why separate colours were used other than for quick identification of problems by Fiat garages.

Temporary fix done for the airbag light

Did all the obvious checks before the MoT and then discovered the horn wasn’t working

Checked the fuse and relay, they were fine, realised it was 30 minutes before the local car spares shop closed, so dashed down there, got a horn for £6 bolted it to the radiator mount and connected it.

I have now done everything I can so need to see what the MoT brings

4 new 205/40/17 tyres being fitted at 9am and the MoT at 12, so will be sweating all day tomorrow

Gonna be a long day!

17" is not in the list of allowed wheel sizes according to Fiat.
Hope they won't fail you for this. I'd leave the new wheels to after the Mot.

The wheels have been on it for many years and I know it has been through a couple of tests since they were fitted, so no option than to fit new tyres to them

It is now at the test centre, so will find out this afternoon how it goes

Gonna be a long day!

Regarding wapper's comment about 17inch wheels, France and Spain will not allow for any modifications to a vehicle at the technical / MOT test. including wheels.
