Hey, I've seen a lot of threads on this forum, with pictures attached, but these pictures have expired since the thread was older than me entering high school:D So i created my own account and this is my first thread!

I've acquired my B last summer, and been doing a couple of stuff on it, making sure it's having the best time on the roads.

Today, and since weeks actually, I have been searching for the ECU OBD-I, I realised long after that my 1997 B doesn't have an OBD-II, I found what i assume is the airbag one, behind the passenger airbag in its socket, and the ABS one(I guess), in the engine bay at the top right also in its socket

Both were misses:bang:, and i'm still in this quest of knowing exactly where is the ECU OBD

I can see that ECU, Itachi E2 thingy...

I keep hearing "In the middle, passenger side" and all around this place, but this being so unprecise, me being a big man and this car not allowing me to squish through, i have yet to get my eyes on it!:p

If anyone can just precisely tell me where i could find it, what steps are to take to reach it, and if theres any picture of its location feel free to share it...

Any help is appreciated!
Stay healthy everyone!

Hi Varesecrazy, As mentionned, the year of conception is 1997, making it a near 24 year young grandma:D

Reading your answer it does not look like you actualy know what i am searching for :D I'm well aware there isnt any OBD2, i'm searching for the ECU OBD 3pin

97 it's most probably aluminium intake manifold engine , it's in the passenger side under the glove box near the ECU in the rigth hinge ( B pilar )
after 2000 the engine with plastic intake manifold the ECU is in engine bay attached to the intake manifold and the 3pin plug is located also in engine bay under central plastic cover with 3 screws ...

As far as I remember, the 3-pin socket you have on the right side of the passenger footwell, is actually an extension wire connected to the box in the center of the engine bay. At least it was so on my 1996 model.

Must correct myself: the 3-pin socket of the engine ECU is NOT an extension wire as I wrote. It is connected directly to ECU box.

Hi, this may help.

I have attached a page from the manual.
When you are sitting in the car it shows that the OBD 3 pin port you are looking for is probably located on the right hand side, close to the RHS speaker in the foot well.
Zoom in to the attached PDF file. It is identified as No'8'
You may need to pull back some covers to locate and see it.
The cable is quite short and is connected directly to the Hitachi ECU.
(See attached photo)
Although it is a three pin plug, there will probably only be two wires in it (one white and one black) and can be read using the Multiecuscan tools you can find out there.

Good luck.

Well spotted.
Yes it is rare.
It sometimes makes reading user manuals fun, especially when all of the instructions are written for LHD cars, and most people on here give instructions based on their LHD cars too.
It makes for an interesting life(y)

It was like that when I bought it.
When I get some time I will go through my paperwork and post a response when I find something.
