Hi all,

During a recent run out the engine management warning light (amber)
came on and stayed on, so I drove around 5km to the Fiat dealer in Cognac.
I then drove home (around 10km) with no problem.

They booked me in for a diagnostic a week later : on the way in to the
dealership, having slowed for entry to a roundabout, the car stalled without
any warning.Fortunately this was only around 1km from the dealer and it
restarted without any difficulty - it did however sound a bit rough.

Later that day I got the call from the garage - the classic good news/bad news
scenario : "good news - we've identified the problem" at which point my
thoughts were that the bad news might involve serious wallet damage but no
"bad news - the part that needs replacing is no longer available".

They did provide me with a schematic (attached) - the offending part is the
hose 60652289.

Trawling the internet reveals that loads of suppliers know about this part, but
apparently no-one actually has any stock.

I have e-mailed Henk at Barchettaparts and Paul at DTR (nothing positive to
date) ; also tried fiatdalys.lt and numerous local & not so local breakers but
no joy.

Has anyone else experienced this problem ? and if so how did you resolve it
Is there a viable alternative or do I need to see if it can be custom made (and
if so any recommendation for where to get it done).

Grateful for your thoughts/advice on this.

Jules

https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/hoses-and-clips

There are specialist suppliers of hoses, one example is on that link. There are others with silicon hoses. They also supply joiners and T-pieces. A bit of trawling should show up enough options to make up your own replacement, although might be a bit of a jigsaw puzzle.

Take care with hose selection. I did not see whether this was an air hose, oil, or coolant, but hoses are made to cope with different chemicals, so get the right ones.

I don't know what else used this engine after Barchetta finished, but later engines, if based on the same unit, might use a similar hose, which might fit if twisted a bit, or shortened, etc. Might be another research path.

Good luck.

What year is your car and do you have a pic of where it goes ?

My scrap car is a 1997 and is still complete and runs so you can have mine , for

a small or large fee if you can identify which one ....:)

Edit to add , have just looked at the 2 PDFs and looks like taking a pic of said hose would be difficult / impossible .

I will try to see if I am even capable of removing the hose without injuring myself.

Hi BarchettaBloke440,

As the car also needed a service , the guys at Fiat in Cognac removed/
cleaned the existing split hose before re-sealing it with rescue tape
(thanks to those who recommended it - I have suddenly found loads of
other things that I can use it on - no,not the wife !)

They also got me the measurements so that I can look into getting a

silicone one made up (have been looking at Viper Performance - anyone

used them ?)

As I don't use the car much (sunny days only - so not recently, then) this
temporary fix should see me right for now until I can get a permanent solution.

So (unless you have been disassembling your b at night !) you can hold off -
nonetheless the offer is very much appreciated.

Thanks to all for suggestions and assistance.
