Original radio

I have just had work done on my 97 Barchetta and asked the garage to re-fit the original radio and cassette player only because I think it looks a lot better than the Pioneer unit I put in many years ago. I gave the garage the original sticker showing the radio code and the handbook which is in English, a mistake as everyone there only speaks French.
The radio is now locked, probably due to attempting to unlock it too many times. The hand book says that after 5 unsuccessful attempts to get it to work I have to go to a Fiat dealer.
The Fiat dealer is a long way from me and more to the point useless.
Does anyone here know how to unlock the radio please? It's not a big deal as I prefer to listen to the sound of the car but hate having something that does not work!

Re: Original radio

If you can post your radio model etc. then there is someone here on Fiat Forum who can potentially help. Might require a small donation but knowing the exact radio / cassette player in question will certainly be a good starting point.

Re: Original radio

It's probably a Grundig. Will it not allow you to enter codes again after some waiting?
Anyway you can check this https://rapgenic.github.io/cars/elec...adio-code.html

I don't think a Fiat dealer can help you with hardware that old : )

Re: Original radio

Thank you to s130 & Wapper. There is no model number but I am fairly sure it is a Grundig - see photo.
Tried leaving it for a couple of days but on attempting to enter the code if stays in "safe" mode. I think you are right in saying it is too old for a Fiat dealer to help.

Re: Original radio

It's interesting that I can't see in the manual that code entry is blocked permanently after N attempts. But it also doesn't say you have unlimited attempts.
Perhaps leaving the radio on for 24h will give you another chance?

Re: Original radio

A copy of my handbook page is here. It gives waiting times corresponding to how many unsuccessful attempts have been made up to 7 tries but after the 5th attempt a visit to a Fiat dealership is required.
Maybe I am missing something but that seems a bit daft. Perhaps "lost in translation" applies?

You may have to have the ignition on and the radio showing safe for the required waiting time before safe disappears and you can enter code.

Re: Original radio

Thanks Jackwhoo, a good idea. I will be away from home and the B for about 16 days from tomorrow but will give it a go on my return. Is it okay to leave the ignition on for say 24 hours without doing any damage? Will hook up a CTEK battery conditioner/charger, an excellent bit of kit by the way.

I do not know if the radio and ignition have to be on for 24hours continuously or if the the 24 hours counts down continues every time both are on.

I also do not know if it is safe to leave the ignition on for that length of time and do not want to guess.

Apologises.

Fingers crossed someone on forum will be able to say for sure.

May I suggest you have radio on showing safe every time you drive , hopefully safe will disappear.
