Post Airbag lamp clear/reset on pre-obd B circa 1995

To reset the airbag light on a pre-obd (circa 1995) Barchetta using Blink codes.

This is my attempt to simplify and clarify the process of carrying out this task.

Can be used if you have inadvertently removed the seats without disconnecting the battery first

This guide is based on the information contained within the Barchetta workshop manual downloaded from this forum. Please find and read this first as I cannot be held responsible for any mistakes or damage incurred.
(I have attached the page for reference)

First find the cable.

On my B it was tucked away and located just to the right hand side between the centre console and steering wheel and cannot be mistaken because it is the only cable with a yellow covering/sleeve. (Definitely not the one found on the right hand side of the steering wheel in the foot well area which will be the Engine ECU plug and only has two wires fitted on a similar 3 pin plug) .

Once the 3 pin plug on this cable is located you can pull back the rubber sleeve a little to expose 3 wires.
(I have included a picture showing these wires if you want to see it)

They are......
(a) Red/white
(b) Black
(c) Blue/light blue

What you need now is a paper clip or wire...or anything you can think of that you can use that will allow you to temporarily connect the Black wire (b) to the Blue/light blue wire (c) for a pre-determined interval.

Follow these next steps….

With the ignition on and your airbag lamp glowing (you don't need the engine running)

This next process will identify the issue.....

Connect (b) and (c) together for about 3 to 4 seconds only (no more than 5) and watch the air bag lamp. It will flash a few times and then return to the ON state. If you count how many times it flashes and then refer to the workshop manual, it will indicate where the problem lies.

Depending on what was found you may have to rectify the issue first. For example the issue may have been caused by oxidisation of the connectors under the seat, so you would have to attend to that first.
After carrying out that activity you can try to clear/reset the fault.

This next process will clear/reset that fault that was found.....

Connect (b) and (c) together for about 6 to 9 seconds only (no more than 10)
If the process is successful and no more faults exist then the Air bag lamp will go out.

If the lamp does not go out then repeat the "identify" process again and count the flashes.
If a new fault is registered then you have to address that first before trying the clear/reset process again.

Eventually the Air bag lamp should extinguish.
Turn off the ignition, leave for a couple of seconds and test it by turning it on again.
The Airbag lamp should stay off.

Repeat any steps as necessary.

I hope this helps those of you with an older B.

Re: Airbag lamp clear/reset on pre-obd B circa 1995

Hi,
I have a B. from 1995.
I don't have odb2 but i have a cable like previous.
The problem is that I have just 2 wires: white-red and black. I don't have the blue wire!!!
What can I do?

Hi Ruxi2K

Checking the workshop manual, I think your Barchetta has the other model crash sensor ecu, so the wiring is slightly different and can only be reset with a computer running the FiatEcuscan or Multiecuscan programs with the special adapter and cable with the 3 pin socket attachment for the airbag ecu shown in attachment.
Good luck. Click image for larger version

Thank you.
I have the adaptor and the odb2 cable, but I can't connect to the airbag module.
I conneced only to the ecu engine module.
