Hi Folks, I have a problem with CO emissions at idle speed. CO = 3.5 (0.5 allowed) and HC 220 (200 allowed). Lambda 1.03 (OK).

Values at higher speeds are OK. It's a 96 with no proper OBD (and definitely my workshop does not have a connector).

Anybody experience with the problem or other suggestions? I thought perhaps the air flow indicator indicates too much air flow (than actual) at idling, possibly resulting in too rich mix?

Here's what I did:
Fleaned the MAF (airflow meter next to filter housing) with electronics cleaner.

Switched on ignition 4 minutes without starting, off 1 minute, then idle 4 minutes.
Mine is a MK1 and no real obd just a connection for a F/L tester that wasn't to be found in the wide surroundings (if at all in Sweden). So this was best guess.

Today she's been tested again and this time no problem at all. I also had the impression that the engine was running more smoothly in particular at idle speeds.
