Hi all,

Tried everything to get the airbag light to go out but nothing has worked.

Can anyone advise on how to remove the bulb temporarily? What do I need to remove, unscrew, to remove the light?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi, under Guides at the top of the Barchetta forum look at speedo repair, that will get you into where the bulbs are. However, have you tried the advice on how to connect to the ecu/airbag plug and resetting the airbag light? Apologies if you have but many have had success.

You have to understand that you are involved / playing with a safety system.

This typical type of system will, for example, treat a missing or blown bulb as an expected normal failure event and then start to do/energise other "things". Had this scenario many years ago on a 2000 (ish) Fiat Coupe where the airbag control unit started to flash other light(s).

You need to get/use diagnostic kit to firstly identify the issue. Then fix the issue.

FYI on the Barchettas the biggest culprit for air bag warnings is the squib connector underneath the driver/passenger seat.

Suggest you disconnect, clean and lube (with the like of "Switch Clean . other commercial connector/switch clean and lubricants) and see if the fault clears down after several drive cycles. If not then you will need the likes of MES/Other diagnostic kit to clear the fault down.

Every so often (year, year and half) my wife's "B' throws the airbag warning light. I just disconnect, clean/lube the connectors under the seats, reset the the errot DTC and all is well.

Thanks for your informative reply, much appreciated. Could you kindly let me know what this connector looks like - what am I looking for under the seat and what do I do when I find it? And what should I be buying if this doesn't work to diagnose the fault and reset? I've read a few of the posts on the kit but I'm a bit thick when I read technical speak that I don't fully understand.

I'd be very grateful for any further help, of course I'd rather not revert to removing the light.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for this reply, I don't know how to do this, any chance you could poont me in the right direction, I'd be most grateful!!!

Thanks in advance.

Slide the seat to it's most forward position.

You will see a cable coming out of the floor (almost central to seat) going to the seat. Run you fingers up this cable and you will feel/encounter the connector.

Now for the tricky bit. Space is tight and difficult to view. You need a good light and mirror. Carefully inspect the connector to see how it unlatches.

DO NOT unlatch yet. Disconnect the battery and leave the car to stand for say 10 to 15 minutes. This is to allow the airbag control unit to self discharge and stop it throwing yet another error code to either of the seat connectors.

Once you have identified the latch/method holding the two connector parts together you will probably neen to slide the seat back to give more slack in the cable to play with and get your hands on and release the latch.

Once unlatched check to terminal corrosion, bent pins/sockets and for damaged cables. Clean and lube.

Putting back is far easier.

If you really can't figure out how to undo the connector, or work in that confined space then you can unbolt the seat and lift and tip it up for vastly improved access.

Thanks for this, very informative and helpful reply. May I ask what am I looking for, as in, what does the connector look like?

Many thanks again.
