This one caught my eye on Ebay (it's a silver LE, just like mine):

The MOT history is a mixed bag, with mention of the dreaded tin worm, but it seems to have been in use until 2015, since when it's been laid up (hopefully under cover).

Surely it's too good to be broken?

If Bradford weren't so far from the wilds of NE Suffolk, I'd go and take a look...

In my previous existence as an owner of an Escort Cosworth, people would

break perfectly good cars as they were worth more in bits than complete.

This is especially the case for heavily modified cars ,they spend thousands

on the mods which they'll never get back if selling the car complete ,so a

running ,MOTed car gets pulled apart.

Yes, but there are mere cars, and then there's the Barchetta.

They should be a protected species imo, or given the equivalent of listed building status (I reckon Grade 2, with the LEs being Grade 2* :D)

So, yeah... it was me that bought this... and it needs a LOT of work. Trying to find a garage who can do it all for less than the £1800 I was quoted.

Apparently no welding, but I've been told:

Full Service Kit: £60
Front Break Pads: £30
Timing Belt: £45
Front Discs x2: £40.00
Front Springs x2 £60.00
Front Shock Absorbers x2 £100.00
Rear Pads x2 £25.00
Rear Discs x2 £20.00
Rear Springs x2 £60.00
Rear Shock Absorbers x2 £80.00
Rust Treatment £60.00
Total £580

And then about £1200 for labour. I've no idea how many hours are involved in fixing all that.

Thats basically all brake and suspension wear and tear.
Prices are ok.. but not cheap.

TBH.. high street chains could be cheaper by the time labour is added.

Does it need all of that for the MOT?

Seems a bit surprising that all the springs and shockers have gone at the same time :chin:

Personally I'd steer clear of the chains and look for a small independent. Those labour costs seem very high for what is essentially a pretty straightforward brake and springs/shocks swap (and all the easier as all those jobs can be done at the same time). The only tricky job (as in, requiring special tools) is the cambelt change.

But the good news that it doesn't need any welding. It struck me as being far too good a car to break, and hopefully, once its sorted, you'll have a cracking car which will continue to appreciate in value.

Kind of my point...
Those jobs are probably @£250 a corner

Welding.. the pics of the underside are how my marea looked.. ok until you prodded..then it needed a fair bit of plating...

BUT.. if the scabby bits can be treated and repainted(for longer life protection)

Then its an ok purchase for an extra grand of service parts work.

Of course DRIVING it may reveal a whole new 'to do list'...

Even though I commute every day in my B (apart from yesterday when I had to carry a rocking horse), each journey is still an event and each time someone stares and tries to work out what it is, or snaps pictures of it, it reminds me why it's worth the time and the work needed every so often.
