I went for a good run in my b on Sunday
As I started all was well but 30 mins into the drive, the temp needle dropped I was on the motorway 70 mph , I slowed and came off at the next services to have a look,
My suspicion is that the thermostat has given up
No dramas just cold temp on the gauge as it was all motorway driving
Looking on eBay for a new thermostat
All or virtually all the listings are for the whole body.
Do I need to replace this
I could only see 1 listing for a thermostat that I recognise as a thermostat
Any help will be much appreciated

Replace the whole body/unit. Most if not all on modern cars also include the temperature sensor and stat in a multi-union housing. Unlike old style thermostats where one simply replaced the stat itself the more modern units are more integrated.

I bought a new thermostat from Fiat. The car now runs far too cold, and even in South Africa's mild winters, the interior heater is ineffective. Slightly annoyed.

That is either faulty or there’s an airlock somewhere, where does your temperature gauge sit? I find the heater quite effective even before the car is fully warmed up ?

Re the gauge, it indicates that it is running very cold. Clearly the new thermostat is faulty. I had previously also fitted a new fan sender unit with a view to sorting things out. The Rand (our currency) rate is very poor and the freight is also prohibitive, so I may consider fitting a cheap in-line thermostat, as much as that goes against the grain!

I've no experience of the difficulties you might have getting parts in South Africa.....but the are plenty of much cheaper aftermarket ones on eBay, or you might try shop4parts who are very helpful..... Hope you get it sorted. Can you do the hot water test in a bowl to check the thermostat....it should be closed when cold?

Thank you Voko - I have not done the water test, my laziness has not yet overcome my frustration! - but a good idea, I will revert once done!
