I appreciate that I may be looking at those pics through my B-tinted spectacles, but it's striking how much prettier, neater and more elegant the B is than the 124 Spider (which already looks dated IMHO)

I'm a div !

Yesterday I left my big bunch of keys hanging out of the boot release lock in the door shut and the door swung closed onto it ,not really hard but enough
it seems to mess it up.

Once again ,the boot is now popping open whilst driving ,not really a problem as it stays down due to the car's design and doesn't even let in water if it's raining.

I drove all over Scandinavia in 2015 with the bootlid popping open some of the time.

The bootlid also sticks up at the front after stuffing the boot full of stuff going
to the dump.

Conclusion.....I've completely messed up my boot lid.....(n)(n)

Yep I agree with both comments, div and messed up boot lid!

My Barchetta has been without its aircon for a few years because it needed a new low pressure pipe which leaked. I thought this summer I would repair the pipe with a weld and get the system regassed and running. Okay so far I had the pipe aluminium welded and then visited the garage for a diagnostic and recharge. This didn't work and was told the compressor was not working so I replaced the compreesor, replaced the condensor and also put a second hand pipe from Barchettaparts.com on to replace the unsuccessful pipe repair. I also changed the drying cannister as this is advised to be changed every two years. I then visited the garage for a diagnostic and if all was well a recharge.
The garage confirmed the system held a charge no leaks, the compressor works but he could not get the system to cool below ambient temperature. He thought that there my be a blockage in the system somewhere.
Yesterday it was 35 degC here and the aircon actually cooled a little but not enough to warrant it being turned on. So dissappointed at present.
Anyone out theree have experience with the aircon system and any advice?

When I used to repair domestic fridges (many years ago), pressure gauges fitted to high and low pressure parts of the system would tell you if the compressor was pumping at correct rate or if there was a blockage in the system. Providing there was correct amount of gas in the system (quantity in grams is on a label in the engine bay) a vacuum on the low side indicates a blockage, high pressure indicates a poor pumping compressor possibly due to a slipping clutch.
Hope this helps

Hi Davefridge, thanks for the info, I wil search out an aircon specialist to give me a proper diagnostic. Do you know if the dehydrator canister is on the low pressure side? I changed this and perhaps this canister is the suspect problem. When the aircon was working with the old cannister it was really efficient and cold. I can replace the old cannister, regas and see if that works but again could be throwing money away. Guess I need to find an expert with the correct kit.

Hi, dryer canister is usually near the end of the high pressure side. I recently changed a Nissan Juke condenser and the dryer was part of it. The compressor compresses the gas which makes it hot. The condenser cools the hot gas which makes it condense into high pressure liquid. This passes through the dryer and then goes to the evaporator which is at low pressure. The liquid boils off reducing the temperature of the evaporator. The cooled low pressure gas then returns to the compressor to start the whole process again.

That's OK Steve. Fridges I know about, gearboxes, on the other hand, I know nothing about what goes on in the magic box!!

Hi folks, new to this forum. Have owned a 97 limited addition silver red top Barchetta for a couple of years now. Bought in Italy by us, the car was initially registered in Germany, exported to U.K., then the English owner brought it back home to Italy in about 2009. We keep it at our place in Italy where we live 95% of the time with the odd visit back to the UK to see family and friends. We use the car to have days out to the coast (20 mins) with the top down on sunny days. Insurance is expensive €500 for six months (third party only!)
Joined the forum to look for possible solutions to poor battery charging. Useful comments found here. Looks like 1) change battery (which doesn't charge well on battery charger so is main suspect) then 2) have tha alternator looked at. I'm not very bendy in the middle(and elsewhere too) so finding the alternator would be a challenge, never mind changing it !
So, I reckon the battery is a good few years old so that's for the chop
Regards to all. This forum looks really useful.

My sister owns a house in Anchiano ,a village off the SS12 about 12 miles north of the city.

It's ideal as I can stay for free and with no one else there ,my favourite time to visit Italy is May, when the Mille Miglia is on.

Let's have some positive news .what with 3 people selling their B's here.

Have owned my car 5 years today and I do not hesitate in repeating that it is

still the best car I've owned......:D

My thread on the "well travelled Barchetta" is ruined now by photobucket's new

policy of charging ,all the pics are blank now...(n)
