My gear stick gaiter was looking a little sad so I bought one from Ebay for €17.

Quality is decent! Now I had to get the gear knob off. An old thread said pull it up as hard as you can and it will eventually come off. Well it didn't.. It seems the Naxos is different or maybe later cars. Mine is a 2002.
Unclip the gaiter from the centre consul. You need to bend it a fair amount for it come free. Then unscrew it, the whole thing, clockwise. In the top of the gaiter (shroud) is a metal threaded ring just held to gaiter by a cable tie and this screws to the bottom on the knob. Once they're separated you'll see three small allen grub screws. Loosen these (don't take them all the way out) and the gear knob comes off. Simple!
