I am in South Africa where I have the only Barchetta. There are no others. I need front brake pads (with the left one having a wear sensor) and am wondering if they are common to any other Fiat or Alfa perhaps? What can I ask for?

Hello Dave, if you haven't already done it check on the ePer using your chassis number to get the correct brake pads, reading the threads there appears to be two different caliper sizes used on the Barchetta. I have the later version of the Barchetta and the part number for pads are 9949048, a quick check on the internet show that they are also used on Alfa Romeos, I think 145 and 146, also Lancia. I recently changed front discs and pads to Brembos, not the very expensive ones but the standard road ones they produce and find them very good for my needs.

Mark 11 I have checked E-per and there found every brake part imaginable, but not the brake pads! I must be doing something wrong? May I tx you my chassis number?

Hello Dave, try this first, on Eper, 'Front Wheel Brakes', my vehicle comes out as diagram (Tab 1/1). On the right there are numbered columns relating to the numbered items in the diagram. In the column/row with 'Front Caliper', next to the 'Notes' at the end, is a box with an arrow inside it. Click on that and it will reveal a sub menu and diagram containing further brake parts including the pads.
Give that a go and if you are still struggling you can forward me your chassis number and I will have a look.

Ah Mark11 - fiendishly clever! I have never noticed the arrows! Thank you very much kind Sir! My Barchetta, being an older one, uses part no. 5892733. This opens up Eper for me in all kinds of ways!

Now I really need help!! - The part number 5892733 has been superseded by part number 71748385 but a cross reference check shows that none of the cars they were used on were imported into South Africa. I may have to import, but it also means I may have to garage my vehicle until I get 'em. (It is so unlike Fiat/Alfa/Lancia that such a part can be so exclusive!)

Dave, I have no idea about South African motor factors but I would try brake manufactures on-line catalogues for the equivalent pads, like Ferodo, Mintex, Brembo et al. Then check your local stockists. For instance I believe your brakes from Ferodo are labelled FDB 370, Brembo I think are P23 070 ( I would double check those just to be on the safe side). Sometimes with the catalogues you will have to put in the original part number, not the subsequent replacement number but it's a suck it and see situation depending on the manufacturer.
