Hi.
I need some advice from the forum.
I'm looking to buy a P reg Barchetta but it fails to have any receipts for a cambelt change. The car now has 74000 km's on the clock and has had all the 20k service intervals stamped. Does anybody know if a specific service states cambelt needs replacing. Paperwork exists for a variator change and that's all I know.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It should be done at 115k OR 5 years, so it may not have been done. I would do it as a matter of course and peace of mind on a car such as that when I bought it anyway. Its not horrendously expensive to do.

If you're not sure its been done, do it, it'll pay for its self, just think what you'd have to shell out if it did snap!

Fiat Barchettas should be serviced every 7,000 miles or 12 mths whichh ever is 1st.

Cam belt should be changed at 33,000 miles. This is what Fiat and Topgear recommend.

Top gear mag from July I think confirms this. (y)

Variator is a problem on cars made before 2001.

Its the belt goes from the crank (at the bottom of the engine) to the cam shafts at the top of the engine. The cam shafts control the valves, by forcing them to open at the correct points in the engine cycle. If it snaps there is a good chance that piston will come into contact with the valve bottom and damage the inside of the engine

You'll find the cam belt on the left hand side of the engine under a plastic cover.

You can see the belt in the below image going around the top two cogs on the left side of the engine:
