I need a little help sorting things out, I'm in Canada and I have a 1997 B, with 108,000 miles, with what I think is the DTR SS sport exhaust from the CAT back.
It also looks like it has some sort of lowering springs, as it's yellow and looks newer than anything else under there.
The car works fine, a little shy on low end torque, quick and entertaining but I would not mind a little more power.
I was thinking about doing a couple things to the car, one was getting the head redone with new high performance cams, lifters, porting an such, as well as putting on a Supersprint SS exhaust manifold.
The key here is thinking, I was pretty convinced until I read some postings and now I am not so sure if it's all worth it and leave well enough alone until it breaks.
Any thoughts and input would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi bollie69, Not too worried about the money, as much as starting down a trouble some road, or spending a ton of money and getting 5 horse power more or worse, less horse power!
Guys like Docorangepeel and KC3 seem to have the ability to change things on their B by the hour, it would be nice to know what is worth doing and what is not.
I also wonder how much louder does the exhaust gets with a supersprint exhaust manifold, the car has a great sound now, except at about 100kMh where it gets loud.
Being where I am, I have no access to hear or see another B unless I jump on a plane!

Hello and welcome to the forum. :)

Please post up some pics of your B as its always good to see.

Regarding Mods, there are a few, and some better value than others.

Depending on your driving style, my favorite upgrades were the
Eibach anti roll bars,
Sparco Strut brace,
Eibach springs
Bilstien suspension.
This changes the way the car feels and makes it more responsive and handle much sportier.

Engine upgrades.
Induction kit GSR or CDA are best,
Supersprint manifold and rear silencer
Uprated walboro fuel pump
These with a remap will give 8-15bhp

If you have an early MK1 B 95-98
Then upgrade the front calipers and pads,
The newer models have a bigger calipers and pads
Ferodo DS2000 brake pads are great as well as EBC Green Stuff
Goodridge stainless steel brake hoses

If your thinking cams and head work for more power, 170-200bhp then a Brembo BIG brake conversion is recommended.
This improves the B's Braking and dodgy handbrake issues.

Then there's cosmetic mods like the exterior chrome Barchetta badges, naxos front lip spoiler, clear indicators. Painted rocker cover. etc!!

If you've been into mine, and doc's threads there's lots to see.
Of course others like Bollie69 have also done loads..

Good luck with B! If you have a good clean example then any extra modifications like those listed really help with keeping the B fun and enjoyable to drive and own. (y)

Oh! The Supersprint system is quieter than a DTR but has more of a rasp than roar. :)

Thank you so much for your time KC3, this means a lot to me, I don't have to search years of posts and try and figure out what is what.
I will try and get a picture of the car, someone might
recognize it.
It does have
bigger brakes in the front, as well as Stainless brake lines.

I have the old ebay link to it still up but I can't post a link as yet as I don't have 5 posting, maybe after a couple more postings I can put it up to see if anyone knows the car and can let know what has been done to it.

If I put the Supersprint exhaust manifold, does that mean the manifold heat shield is no longer usable, as well what happens to the dip stick with all these pipes twisting all which way? Is there any negative results to those. I am thinking of keeping the DTR back exhaust and using the Supersprint manifold?
I hope you're ready and willing for a thousand more questions :)

Hello :)

The Supersprint manifold fits around the original dip stick, you just need to pull the sleeve out and re-position, although I think i had to bend mine slightly to fit and yes will work fine with the DTR backbox.

And also the original heat shield will not fit, but you could use exhaust heat wrap which is what I will do soon or have another heatshield made.

I added twin fans to mine so will need to wrap the exhaust.

Hi KC3, thanks again for your expertise I would not have even thought of wrapping the manifold, I'm going to get some photos up of the bottom of the B, I see there are red springs, not sure if it's lowering springs or not and by how much also if they are worth keeping.
I've looked for the Eibach anti sway bars for the B as per your suggestions but I can't seem to find any made for it? Would it be too inconvenient for you to let me know where you got these?
