Technical No idea how fast car goes!!!

I always reckoned it was geared at just under 20 mph per 1000 rpm in 5th?

Can't find confirmation on the net though.

That seems about right, given a max speed of 124 mph and peak power at 6300 rpm.

UPDATE:

Just found this thread: https://www.fiatforum.com/barchetta/98400-rev-limiter-gear-ratios.html

It's 32.2 km/h (20.01 mph) per 1000 rpm in 5th.

How VERY kind of Fiat to make it so easy to do the mental arithmetic while on the move!

That's if my tachometer is correct!:D

Hi KC,

But yours is a Turbo equiped B or am I wrong?
How about Turbo lag?

Hi, this one is not turbo'd just remapped with some extra mods. 156bhp at the mo. But I did the 132mph when it was mapped at 138bhp

I owned another B which I purchased alone just for the novitec turbo mechanics and then sold the car on.

I still have the turbo kit although never fiited to my existing B.

With the turbo it is 188bhp and will do just over 140mph :D and a rush to drive.
The authorities will not let me fit the turbo unit to my engine as it will render the vehicle only for track use, so Ive never fitted it to my existing B,

I have the unit for sale if anyone is interested.

So re-mapping works then? How much did you pay for it (if you don't mind me asking)?

I have been told that it can give you a few more HP, and a bit better fuel economy? Is that true? All from replacing or flashing the ECU?

Hiya, only the ECU of the Mk1 Barchetta can be remapped, although you can only go so far. Mine was done at Red Dot in Watford.
They remove the existing chip and replaced it with a plugin type.

Mine is an early august 1995 B which were tuned slightly better than later models produced, that were restricted.

On my first dyno without modification my B had a healthy 138bhp,
after a remap we went to 146bhp.
after adding an induction and free flow exhaust, high flow fuel pump 151bhp
after decatt, fuel pressure regulator 153bhp.

Ive recently made changes to my induction and throttle body so hope to have jumped up a couple of bhp but need to have another remap and get her on a Rolling road.

I'm planning some modification in the future for cylinder head work and hope to produce gains for 175-180bhp Naturally aspirated.

Seems your getting the B in a new state, after a healthy 17 years on the road.
How much miles (or km's) has the engine done?

What changes have you made to the throttle body?
And what does the decat do to the sound of the exhaust?

Hooligan.....moi?

Just a thought, how fast do these little cars actually go (I mean really go, not how fast my speedo says I go). I'm off to Germany soon to give the Barchetta to my daughter, so may open her up on the autobahn..........

220 kmh is 136.7 mph! The tests of the B variously put its top speed at between 120-125 mph.

Hiya! I had 132mph from mine on the german autobahn, this was registering from my sat nav speed and speedo. :D have pic,s somewhere..

I've taken my (completely unmodified) B to top speed on the Autobahn twice, and my sat nav showed the following speeds:
First time, with the roof up: 219 km/h = 136mph (I was trying to reach 220 but it just didn't happen)
Second time, with the roof down: 205 km/h IIRC (127mph)
Both times on a level stretch of road (i.e. not cheating by going downhill!) with 1 person in the car and the boot full of luggage :) Can't remember how much petrol I was carrying at the time - bit more than half a tank perhaps?
I haven't got any photos to prove it though - at those speeds I wasn't going to play around with a camera trying to take photos of the sat nav screen!

I have to say that it wasn't really a lot of fun driving the b at these speeds, especially with the roof down. I think it's much better suited to twisty B-roads (no pun intended!)

BTW, zaphodski, whereabouts in Germany does your daughter live?

Regards
Giorgio

Hi Giorgio.

My daughter lives just outside Moenchengladbach. I know there is a local Barchetta owners club nearby and have already written to them. I just hope after all the effort i'm putting into the car she appreciates it !!!

Respect for even attempting that kind of speed with the top down! Mine's pretty unbearable top-down at half that speed!

Reminded me of this classic Clarkson moment:

Hiya Oli,

Yep! Want the B like new or better than new:D .. luckily i,m the 2nd owner, Purchased her with just 21,000 miles and now she has 51,000, so not to much millage on the engine.
I,ve changed all of the drive gear and suspension and now with new paint she will look as good as she drives.

Throttle body was slightly ported and polished, there's not much metal that can be removed from the original but when I have head work done, I will look for a larger throttle body.
Decatt makes hardly any difference to noise

sweet. I've done almost 45.000km with the barchetta now.
Under the car almost everything changed by now. all trialing arms, bushes and monroe suspension is ready to come on to it.

Should be also like new :)

Do you have any experience with the suspension bearings? i have a set springs i dismanteled but the bearings are bit dirty and dry. could I reuse them? Or do you know where to get them new as they are verry hard to get.
