It should just pull off - no screws or anything.

take roof down, stand between gear, grab with both hands and pull... watch for teeth. you could hit your face like nobody did before.

If you're standing over the gear knob and pulling that hard, it's not your teeth you need to be worried about.

Heat up the gear knob around the bottom part with hair dryer. Works every time.
