Hi, I just got my first Barchetta LE 1998. Everything works as it should except the speedo. Once moving, the needle rises slowly to 55mph and just stays there. It falls to zero once car has stopped completely but doesn't gradually fall.

Milometer is working ok. I've had the sensor out a couple of times and it has a date stamp on it of Feb 98 so it is not the original and I'm not convinced this is the problem.

Any ideas what else it might be? This is a UK car with 60k genuine miles.

Well, I bought the used speedo off ebay and what a disappointment it was. The needle was already off when it arrived and falling around inside the display. I took the shroud off to fix it back on it's spindle and then noticed that the dial had been cut from another unit and glued in place. This leads me to believe that the spare is a km/hr import with a UK dial glued in.

After fitting it to my b, the speedo didn't work anyway and neither did the mileometer. The rev counter only worked after a tap on the face.

Needless to say, I sent it back and the guy was pretty good about it and refunded my money in full.

So back in the same boat (little boat) but the original speedo is working a little better now. Maybe I just disturbed something. I did clean all the connections befor refitting. It still has the fault but not quite as often.

The search continues..........
