My B has over winter had a respray, and is looking so much better for it, I was considering selling and finding another car to play with, but It's passed it's MoT so all is good except for one proviso the exhaust a small blowing at the flex part and middle box.
So I am considering a custom exhaust had a quote for £337 from longlife for a Cat back system. my nearest agent is 50 miles away so would need to see it before I book it in. And a quote from my local garage that will fit a powerflow system, they will replace the flex section refit my cat then build up a system with one middle box and back box, this will cost £450

Opinions please does any one else have a powerflow system, although it is more money I am favoring the powerflow system as it's on my doorstep. or am I being daft spending so much?

Also I have bought a heat deflector for the manifold but this still rattles. what are pros and cons on heat rap is it a good idea, will it keep the heat of the radiator fan?

Hi Dave,

I have a Powerflow exhaust on my B, that was fitted by the previous owner. Difficult to compare it with the Longlife system as I've not experienced it, but I have to say that I love the Powerflow! Sounds fantastic, particularly after 30 mins of running i.e. when it's warmed up. Highly recommended. It's also been on the car for 5 years and 30k and still looks brand new.

Hope that's some help, please ask questions if you'd like to know more. (y)

Adam

Thanks for your views, Read quite a few posts regarding the longlife exhaust hence the reason I got a quote and I am sure that it's a good product. my reason for posting was because I had a quote from longlife and an estimate from powerflow with a difference in price of £100+ . I would have to travel 55 miles to the nearest Longlife fitter. and I suspect that the price would probably be more than the original quoted price as work needs to be done on the flexible section of the system, just before the cat.
Powerflow will remove the flexible section and weld a new one on, my cat is still in good condition so will remain they will fit a new middle section and back box, my tail pipe will be a twin exit. best bit is it's very local, they recon it will take about 3-4 hours to do, booked in for the 9th June.
Adam thanks for your post given me a bit of confidence regarding the product,

Hi Adam,
Afroking says that his system is a Mid-sport and is very loud, any ideas what yours is. Powerflow did say that they can do without the mid box perhaps that is what he has.
I like to hear the exhaust note but it can become a bit tiring on long journeys

My Longlife is a Mid-sport and doesn't seem overly loud to me but my wife says you can hear my car coming from quite a distance away. Don't think its too bad on the B. On a Citroen Saxo it would be laughable.

I have just bought a used Alfa Romeo 156 Sportwagon to replace the family Volvo and would love to put a Stainless exhaust on it. One day I might.

I'm afraid I don't know the exact model of mine, all I do know is that only the rear section is Powerflow.

I'm certainly not into waking the neighbours, and to my tastes it's not too loud. It's not OTT and boomy in exhaust note either IMO, it purely accentuates the lovely Italian rasp from the engine... Also gives a nice occasional subtle burble on the overrun, only audible with the roof down. Sounds immense through tunnels!

Put it this way, I used to have a B with the standard exhaust - and as much as I loved how it sounded I would never swap back from the Powerflow, I think it suits the car really well. As Nicolas says, it may be a bit ridiculous on a Saxo or something, but not on a B.

I may struggle over the next few days but if you'd like I'll try and record a vid so you can hear it?

Thanks for the offer, don't wish to cause you any trouble. I have committed to the Powerflow option, they tell me it's not to loud in a disturbing way, The guy at the fitting bay sounds very knowledgeable, explaining the mechanics of each part of the system and the options open to me. So we will see.
Looking forward to my new sound as my old exhaust is a bit embarrassing at the mo.(n)
When the new one is fitted I will upload some pictures of the new system.
Regards Dave M

Had the new exhaust fitted, and very pleased, sounds great not to loud but at low revs sound very nice. Did worry that my better half would comment on the sound, but she likes it so a bonus.

The flexible section was leaking

So a new flex was welded to the two into one section.

The front box was also in poor condition

From the cat all new

I now have a large ally heat shield that is redundant should I remove this? You can see it in the last picture.

Like others we have just had a Longlife SS system fitted.

Just the two boxes. Middle and Rear. Original Fiat triangular resonator box removed.

Went for the 'mild' gentle but deep purr setup.

Choice of tail pipes excelent.

As ours is a 2005 'B' we had to be a little more restrained in tailpipe design and the original oval pipe is also tapered to follow the profile of the rear bumper.

Really satisfied with quality, service and of course sound.

Total cost £350 including VAT.

I had a lovely 4" on mine that set of car alarms :D About 110dB in the lower frequencies (y)
