NICE ONE! :) WHITE BARCHETTA!!

Always good to see others giving love and doing modifications to there B's..

Engine bay looks great.. (y) keep up the good work..

Thank you for the good comment.
Thats right you can find all other photo's I have on the main section of the pictures map called barchetta

Today I've replaced the 73° thermostat to a 88° of behr.
Top result. Temperature goes straight up between 75 and 90°, with thermperatures under 0
You can see the termostat is trying to keep temp up.

Just having some issues getting the top hose of the rad to the termostat leak free. I get a drop at it when reaching higher pressure on the system.
Think I will need a new hose.

Oli,

Is is not better to have the themostat open earlier, at a lower temp. would this not circulate the water through the vehicle sooner..

I allway thought the barchetta had a standard 83degree stat and an optional 88degree,

Maybe as i,m living in a warmer climate this is different..

I don't think you quite understand how the cooling system of the car works.
You want to reach operating temperature asap, after opening the termostat the cooling starts and your temperature drops.

The interiour radiator is connected to the small circuit, just like the heat exchanger of the oil. with the thermostat closed.

If you would open the thermostat earlier, at a lower temp, this would take the engine much longer to heat up.
resulting in higher fuel consumption and wear to the engine.

If you look in the workshop manual (pre 99) at the cooling system. It says the thermostat half opens at 83 and fully opens at 88.
This means operating temperature is beween these numbers, and should be reached asap.

Btw the 83° thermostat holds the temp to aprox. 77°
and the 88° at aprox. 83°
(from what I can see on the water temperature gauge)

Once you reach operating termperature the full circuit opens. so outside temperature is not relevant.
Or am I missing something?

nevertheless. It's -15° here this night, so the new thermostat is greatly appreciated.

Here some new parts that have arrived today.
If it cares, all came from the uk :D

Wel... The steering wheel looks stunning! I'll give it a second thought.
It seems he has redone the black leather to.
I could give myself a birthday present:D

sorry haven't had time to take pictures of the engine, it's just too cold to work(n)

Really haven't had time to change the hose to the aluminium pipe.
I've cut it to length, and bought fasteners so actually it's a matter of installing it.
Maybe tomorrow, but I don't have a warm garage. And working under 0° is not verry pleasant

I drove my little bar about 2h30 this evening to get it. The car has its daily 2way drive for about 30minutes but it hasn't felt alive for a long time after this long spin and doing some trashing(y)
You got to love the caracter of the car:)

Great mod Oli, (y)

Really helps the B to feel more taught..

And sorry for delay with the wheel, started work again and found no time to see the leather guy.
Still waiting for a response from the engine guy too.
Will be in touch as soon as I know more.

No problem m8. I've got time.
Haven't got time myself to start working on the engine.
I have apprentice time at a company the folloing 12 weeks, so i've got little spare time. And with the cold it's no fun to work when I can.
I'm glad it's a bit warmer. I just fitted the sparco strutbrace.

It fits like a dream. It's got 2 mounting point each side. The bottom one even fits on the small bolt (left under water reservoir, and right under the fuse box)

The little bolt above the fuse box fell through after I gave it a little punch. I now got a square hole. Any ideas how to get it right? Probably i'll start seaching it, but I suppose I need to remove the wheel arch?
arch... just fitted them 2 weeks ago after installing the HID.

Like you said. it's a whole transformance of the car.
Didn't expect it would make such a diference.
Best of all... It only did cost me €35 :D exept gas lol

-adjusted the handbrake after the new cables streched
-removed the glue from the hood after a fail attempt to fix it
-fixed the drivers lock problem after braking it when frozen
-got some led lights in the boot now
-mounted some small items off ebay china (check red stars)
-got the alu air duct fitted (fits perfect, doesn't fool anything)

Hehe they do come in some colors. Will check them for you.
Does anyone know how to mount a fiat 500 steering wheel to a barchetta.

Do I need some kind of hub? I honestly don't know.
