Hi All,

Have recently been having problems starting. First normal key wasn't recognised and code light stayed on. tried red key code light went out and it started...

Next day all seemed fine at first then same problem and red key not recognised? after a couple of attempts of removing re inserting key she started and seemed ok.

Problem seems to be intermittent?

Any ideas on what could be causing the problem? Keys or reciever??

Unfortunatly, there is no Fiat dealer here to help me on this one. (n)

I have read in the owners handbook about an "emergency starting procedure" (which may get me home if it craps out totally) using the accelerator pedal and the 5 digit code...

only 1 problem... I don't have the code  !!

Is this available from FIAT? where how who would I contact to get this?

Any advice greatly appreciated

I had this once on a Coupe..same system. The problem turned out to be a broken antenna on the code box. The antenna is wound around the outside of the ignition lock barrel. Not hard or expensive to fix...

Just an idea.

Grrrrr... the dreaded emergency PIN code and key code saga.

You can go into any Fiat dealer and request this code. You will have to fill in a form, provide identity, proof of ownership ...... blood and DNA samples and possibly some cash as well.

In mainland Europe (excludes UK) cars are delivered to the customer with the Fiat Code Card, Mechanical Key Code, Radio/CD Codes and Locking Wheel Codes.

In the UK these are removed on import and sent to/registered with the NVSR (National Vehicle Security Register or now known as Retainagroup (retainabroup.com).

This I don't have a problem with. The problem I have is that you, the car owner CAN NOT directly obtain YOUR VEHICLE'S data directly from NVSR. The dealer can get it. The AA can get it and with a little luck (as happened to me) your car codes, registration, make, mode, name & address, and bank details end up getting faxed to the wrong dealer. How secure is that!

To add salt to the wound Fiat UK did not have any means of getting your data to the RAC or a European vehicle breakdown service.

Who owns the F***ing car. Every man and his dog can get this data but the legitimate owner can't.....without difficulty.

A few years ago I had big letter and telephone exchanges with Fiat UK regarding a) my right to the data b) how my data was given to other parties with full personal and vehicle data disclosure and c) being an RAC member only the AA had access to the data. All fell of deaf ears.

I've made a point of NEVER buying a new Fiat from any Fiat dealer unless they obtain and provide me with MY vehicles security data. If they get the data, which they can, then they get the sale. Otherwise I take my business elsewhere.

You can try Retainagroup directly to get your cars codes but unless policy has changed you will have to go to your Fiat dealer.

Thanks for the advice on the antenna, will have a look tomorrow.

Have a feeling I could be scr***d on the code... No Idea where my car originated. I think Dubai but the company there longer deals with Fiat

I have contacted Fiat UK today.... will let U know if I get a reply.

Many thanks

Wayne

Old thread, old question, never really clarified. Did anyone ever manage to obtain the 5 digit code for their car? I'm lacking a red key and the code card. I bought the car with a blue key, and Timpsons successfully cloned that one, so at least I have a spare. Fiat UK referred me to my Fiat dealer for the code, but they're not much help. No problems proving registration and ownership!

Is there a central database somewhere with all our vehicle information? I've pasted below a response from Retainagroup to a query sent last year - Erroneous info about the red key and no joy there either.

Thank you for your enquiry.

UK Fiat vehicles do not have security cards left in them. Codes are obtained through authorised Fiat dealerships when required.

I suggest you to contact your local Fiat dealership who will be able to advise you regarding the keys. As far as I am aware Fiat did not use the red key system after 1998.

Well, as I have recently posted elsewhere, my car was first registered in Italy and therefore came to me with all the codes. I also do not have a red key and I'm pleased to hear you got one cloned from the blue key. I must do this as I have only got one key now.

I agree that the situation regarding UK registered Fiats is ridiculous and I wonder if someone from DTR could assist with this. One of the DTR staff used to post on here a while ago but I dont recall his name.

It cost £30 or £40 a year ago. They've got a chipping machine in most shops, I think.. got to have a spare, eh! My B was also first registered in Italy in 2001.. can I get a code from Fiat in Italy do you reckon?

Hi Mark

I got your email would be great to meet up at Hopetoun House

My car came with two credit card size cards. One is the Codice Di Sicurezza which shows the Model Type, Serial Number and Code No. The second card is blue and has a key printed on it. It shows the Electronic Code (five digit number) and the Mechanical Code (starts W then four digit number)

The car was supplied by

Bazzi & C. s.n.c
Via di Mezzo,15
41030
S. Giacomo Roncole
Mirandola (Modena)
Italy

I have found this company on the net

Autofficina Bazzi Autocentro Sas Di Angonese Beniamino E C.
Via di Mezzo, 7, 41037 Mirandola Modena, Italy
+39 0535 25528

It's clearly the same company but doesnt have a website.

Sorry its not much help. I think you need to find an owner in Italy to ask for you unless or course you can parlare l'italiano.:D

As anyone tried the Automar,Fiat code reader that's on line? I live in Canada, and apparently is sold in the UK.It is the only one that I can find on line that says it works on the Barchetta.
