How do you check for wear on the rear swing/trailing arms.

I have raised the car and applied handbrake then grasped wheel at 3 and 9 '0clock position and tried to move in and out with no play but this test I think is only for the wheel bearings.

Help !!!!

Hi Phil. I changed both of mine last year, car passed the MOT no problems you couldn't feel any play at all. but I suspected I had something wrong, symptoms were when I reversed I had a sharp clunk from the rear didn't happen all the time, also if I hit a bit of rough road a got a really sharp clunk from the rear, again didn't happen all the time.
I looked at the rear anti-roll bar checked the brakes to see what this clunk was. So took the plunge and bought new trailing arms, ,glad I did this as the left hand arm was a pain to remove see thread below.

Hope this helps Dave M

Hi Phil,

Paul from DTR, raise the car, handbrake off and then hold the wheel at 12 & 6 o'clock and try and lift the wheel. If the bush has gone or is going you'll get excessive movement. Hope this helps.
