Too little road experiance gives you a huge premium, especially with a fancy left-hand drive car, up in the insurance section there is a list of things that effect your policy premium, may be worth reading through it, see how much applies to you. :)

If you wait until next year to get one (I know how difficult that is believe me), your premium will be significantly less.

4 years protected no claims, try tesco or direct line, they are the cheapest, depends where u live as well, if its parked on road, drive gge etc. to be honest, i didt think id b able to insure it, but was surprised. dont bother with internet quotes, they come out really expensive, and it might make a difference if you get an older 1. u r welcome to use my reg for a quote, tesco wont quote without 1, its on the pics in show off ur barchetta thread.:)

Ok, can somebody tell me about barchettas, I am considering getting one this summer, and would like to know what to look out for, what engin sizes etc... I may be importing it from germany/france (since their all LHD) does anybody know what the difference between european models and UK models are?

I bought a new UK spec Barchetta in January 2005 as a replacement for my Z3 and can honestly say that, save for a straight six and power hood, the Barchetta is the better car - better handling, gearbox and steering. The only problem I have had is a rattle from the front suspension which began after about the first 1,000 miles. Don,t expect Porsche build quality - the interior trim is a little flimsy but adequate.

Being left hand drive, the car was a sensible choice for my move to France last year and considerable cheaper to buy in the UK. With only a couple of hundred miles on the clock and the French Autoroutes ahead I was surprised at how comfortable the car was a over 120 mph. Since then, and once the car had covered about 8000 miles the engine has just come alive - great, very Italian, fun!

With regards to that rattle, does anyone have any thoughts - I wouldn't trust the dealers here with a Tonka Toy - but thats another story.

could be the anti-roll bar bushes, a myriad of suspention bushes and or ball joints... Whan you say rattle, is it a kind of clonking noise, noticable when you go over bumps? It could even be the exhaust rattling on the heat sheild, I believe that this can be manhandled to desist from ratteling.

Hi mate,
At least your choice in cars is getting better lol
Check everything is tight mate, wheels, brakes, suspension, anything you can get a spanner or wrench to basically.

serpico, remember the barchetta is group 17 insuarnce, because its a soft top puts it up, thats why is so expensive. At least your not living in N.I. were i pay 2700 for a seicento sporting and im 19 with my advanced driving licence.

Thanks for that,

Yep, it,s a clonking noise when you go over bumps. I gave everything on the underside a good yank but nothing moved. Thankfully the noise isn't audible with the hood down.

Let us know how you get on as I get that noise, checked around and could see nothing. Passed it's MOT and had the wheels balanced and nothing found.

Will Do

its more than likely the Anti-Roll bar bushes need to be replaced. An easy job, but if you're still under warrenty you'll probably want to go to a dealer... you may even get them done for free, cos they usually take a bout 20000 miles to start to wear.
