Dear all.

My B failed its MOT today, partly because its front tyres were a little worn, partly because the reversing light and fog light have been reconnected wrongly when the rear end of the car was repaired last year.

I can't believe the lights are too difficult to sort - is it just a question of removing the boot inner trim and redoing some electrical connectors???

Many ta's in advance.

PS - can anyone recomment a good mechanic in the wakefield area who would do the variator etc on a B?

Rich

Regarding the lights then from what you have said then accident reparing garage got it wrong.

I suggest you take your MOT failure notice, your repaire's bill/receipt back to the reparing guarage and ask them to 1) correct their problem and 2) get the car re-MOTed at their expense.

They may say that you failed for lighting and tyres in which case you may have to agree to meet 50% of the re-tests costs for the tyre part.

Without actually looking at your car then there is no way I can comment on what errors, even possible bodges they have made in your wiring.

I would normally expect repairers to use original wiring looms and connection interfaces so getting lights crossed over should not happen. If the repairer has cheated then I would involve you insurance company. Their is a possibility that the repairer has billed the insurance company for "?" and then done "Y".

Without inspecting your vehicle then what I post here is pure speculation, is offered for information only and I do not/can not provide any acceptance or liability for the information I have provided.

Thanks for the reply.

Taking the car back to the garage that replaced the rear panel and arguing the toss would be one way, as its the only way the mix up could have happened.

However, the option I chose was to pull away the inner boot trim on the rhs, to expose a small plug/socket connector (no. 141 in the Fiat wiring diagram i think), and swap over the outer wires (Black and White). Problem sorted!

Cheers,

Rich

Why would the garage swop the plug wires round?

Least you have sorted the problem which is good.

The car may be an orignal import with the garage having little experience of this car, they made it factory correct with out checking (UK swoop them over)

When my last B was crashed the repair garage got so much wrong because they had no clue!!!

All the fun of owning a LHD-B

Maybe the garage plugged the connectors into the wrong lamps when refitting.

They should have checked it, really.

Yes, they should.
It was a Ford main dealer (insurers preferred fixer). As they replaced the rear, I dare say they just reconnected the lights at random.
I can't say I was surprised, as they also left the doors open so when i went to pick it up, the battery was as flat as a pancake too.

Cheers all, Rich.

Now, all I need is another 20bhp...

Hey.. It happend to me too... You have to take the bumper out in order to change the cables... That's the only way. 2 screws in left and 2 in the right side... and inside the trunk another 4. Easy job :)

good luck

you don't - the easiest way is to swap the wires over on the plug/socket connector behind the plastic trim in the boot...
