MOT today

Short abstract:-
-Nearside (floor , front and rear large are) Seat Belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded (5.1.B.6) **DANGEROUS**
-Offside rear (insider rea inner wheel arch, major corrosion damage all around the area.) Subframe mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded [2.4.A.2] **DANGEROUS**
-Nearside rear (insider rea inner wheel arch, major corrosion damage all around the area.) Subframe mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded [2.4.A.2] **DANGEROUS**

Also, near rear caliper, nearside trackrod end ball joint, 2 new tyres etc etc

After last year's skimmed clock, head gasket, variator, heater matrix expense etc I promised the wife "no more". Managed to put a nice exhaust on it (stainless  ) as it was no more expensive than the Fiat part, but that's it.

Time to let go.

New car purchase required this weekend.

Will get nothing for it as trade in, and I guess I've not done much of an avert here (!), but what do you reckon I can get for it as parts?
:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Matt

Engine £400
Gearbox £175
Wheels alloys? £100+
Exhaust £75+
Bumpers £150+
Lights £100+
Leather seats? £100+

etc, etc, etc....

Good luck buddy, sorry to hear its so rusty.

What are you going to get next? I just bought a 156 so I need to rid of my Barchetta!

B's problem in death will be the same as it was in life - I know so little about car maintenance (plus have so little time to learn!) that I'm probably not capable of extracting the best value from it.

Certainly part-ex won't be an option, and private sale of a car with "don't drive it on public roads" could be tricky! To a B lover, I'm sure many of the parts are worth while, I'm just not capable of splitting the lovely beast up myself.

Anyway, I'll have B with me for a few more weeks whilst I try to sell her on - in the meanwhile, I sense a bottom of the range Panda on the horizon - at £5995 new for a 1.1 Active Eco I don't think anything in the new market is going to beat that.

And the sun was just starting to shine......

I think this thread needs to be kept to the point, it seems as if it is turning into a 'for sale' thread. If you are interested in this car, PM the guy.

Thanks for the messages of support - a book of condolences will be opened.....

I hadn't noticed that the thread was turning into a sale advert (were there some posts which were deleted that I missed)? Certainly hadn't intended that to be the case. IN all probability I will have to sell at some point, though as of today I am not in a hurry. New Panda being picked up tonight, so I will have to move off to another forum!!

One aspect which would be very useful to me though would be information on how to go about maximising the cash that I could get from an old B. Mods, please feel free to step in if you think I'm over-stepping the mark here, but I've only disposed of cars in two ways before:-
- private sale
- trade in

As I've said previously, I'm no mechanic so a) don't have the tools and b) don't have the ability to strip a car down into good quality saleable components. Is there a business out there which would (perhaps on a %age basis) act as an agent for doing this?

My other thought was ringing around / emailing Fiat dealers up and down the country with "I've got a clapped out Barchetta on my hands - know any local enthusiasts or any of your staff that are interested in a welding project?!?"

I could of course ebay (very much sold as seen!) but given that I'm in no rush to sell I think that would have to be the last resort.

As I've said above, I've no intention of this being some sort of subterfuge means of advertising a car for sale, so please follow the mods advice and don't turn this into a "for sale" thread!!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Matt

Out of curiousity, (Matt -sorry to jump on your thread) but how would a person of non existant mechanical knowledge prevent their Barchetta that is being used on an everyday basis ending up in the same way??

I've just spent a fortune at DTR getting my car back up to scratch but i shouldnt think the work carried out wasnt anywere near as intrusive as it needs to be to prevent rusting etc.. Any thoughts??

Think this is my old b you are talking about!

How are you getting on with the b?

Hope DTR have done a good job for you. I bought mine from there after them 'getting it up to scratch'! Non matching locks, cracked cam which they replaced etc! search some of my old threads!

Re the rust on larkims - just keep the waxoyl checked. Should prohibit the problems.

Still a fantastic car. You will love it!

I have many fantastic memories of my fabulous original b.
