Hello guys. I am kind of NB in Barchetta. Got mine from Japan (i`m living in Cambodia) with 65K km on it and 1996.

So i start to clean up it and fix issues. And i have few questions.

1. Air conditioner. It quite hot in Cambodia (avg +32C). So when i am driving in city my temperature pointer is in middle position and aircon is working good. But once i stopped in traffic jam, temp pointer start to raise up and aircon blowing not so cold air as before. Start to move - and everything again normal. Any ideas? Not enough power for aircon at idle? :tosser:

2. Engine temperature. As i told before temperature pointer is not in one place. It always above middle but can go up or down. Is this normal or i need to look something in cooling system?

3. Injection system failure. Few times i have this light on at dash board. And it goes off after few minutes. Engine working good, seems like enough power and etc. Should i worry or just drive and forget?

4. Soft roof. It looks like leaking but i didn`t drive in rain. I want to paint it with some kind black textile paint and put on some water-resistant spray. Somebody did that? Advices will be much appreciated.

5. Trip meter and speedometer. Speedometer sometimes working sometimes not. That`s weird.:bang: I put it apart few times but still didn`t find reason. I suspect that is problem with exactly speed pointer. Because when i am driving odometer is working but speed is not. Some times all working good.

6. Rear plastic window. Any possible way to make it transparent again? Mine looks like blind.

Looking for your advices and opinions. Thanx. :worship:

hi fester
i will give you some of my advice only if you show me photos of you B i love orange ones:D
speedo get stuck on mine too a good slap to the top of the dash board fixs it realy i am not kidding

the back window can be helped by polish i use renovo polish on ebay, maybe something similar in your home.

the roof if its vinyl it can be painted personaly i would put on new roof orange barchetta are worth it :), but if its mohair you can get water proofer to seal the roof but dont paint it.

hope this helps looking foward to seeing photos no pressure :worship:

about speedo, if it work as "wish mine was orange" said then is bad connection, I'm driving withouth whole dashboard... only dials are hanging on some ropes, there is some connector with 4 lines behind speedo and when i push it to the left then is not working and when i push it to right then works. bad connection on that connector.

next time when you put it apart, remove all bulbs, wiring and spray them with contact spray to clean those wires on that plastics things...

Hi Fesster Congratulations on your new Baechetta and welcome to the forum.

Any ideas? I also live in a hot climate and in the middle of summer suffer problems with the cars temp climbing especially when stuck in traffic or driving "enthusiasticaly" But at temps of 30-35C it's normally ok. Sits at about 1/4. Its when it gets to 40C an up it cant handle the heat and I have to drive keeping a close eye on the temp gaugue and switching the ac on and off.... :yuck:. then it will climb to 1/2 and even up to 3/4....

Normally while the ac is on it will blow cold air. Not fantastically cold compared to my other car but it works...

Would mabybe suguest that you check for air in the cooling system, have aircon checked for correct gas pressure (maybe a leak) of maybe a weak compressor ? (hopefully not but I know mine had been replaced b4 I bought the car... mine is a 1999).

This may be the problem... a bad sensor or fault? Do you have a FIat dealer or someone with the software and cables that are able to read the fault code??

4. Soft roof. It looks like leaking but i didn`t drive in rain. I want to paint it with some kind black textile paint and put on some water-resistant spray. Somebody did that? Advices will be much appreciated.

I contacted carhoods direct and was quoted £400 for a new mohair hood delivered to bahrain.. pre vat / delivery price was £275 so £400 just seemed too much for delivery (as there should be no vat outside the UK/EU)?

Search the forum... people have found plastic cleaners that work well.... I was fortunate that my rear window was zipped into position so I just unzipped it... took it to a trim shop and they cut out the old window and sewed in a new one...

Looking for your advices and opinions. Thanx. :worship:

Hope this helps... I was in Cambodia 2 years ago and I just can not picture a Barchetta traveling down the road in between the scooters with 20 chickens and 2 pigs.....

Tempture is correct - B's rise when then stand still. Even mine does here in the UK, it's fine. Some people fit a double fan to their radiator.

Injectors - Replace your spark plugs and check the contacts to them. Buy some fuel cleaner and run that through.

Speedo is common. Check your contacts again.

Hood - Buy a new one.

Good luck and please post pics...;)

 I have the double fan !!! But that reminds me of something I forgot to mention.....

If you have 2 fans on your radiator check the resistor that is located between them.... I found mine broken.... since buying a second hand replacement from www.barchettaparts.com I have noticed a vast improvement on cooling... Thanks Nino!!

Wow, great response. We don`t have any Fiat dealer here. I suppose mine B and other Coupe is only 2 Fiats in this country :D

Speedo was taken apart few times, will do it again :bang:

Now car is in service - battery changed, engine oil, engine coolant, brake liquid changed, aircon fixed (at least they told so). Unfortunately they told me that brake booster is faulty. Will see today what is the fault and what i will do.

Also i have annoying cricket sound while driving inside. Something rub against something and those scratches are brrrrrr
Will try to find and lube those places.

Sorry, have only one mobile photo but promise, i`ll do more :)

Hehe. It`s all vinyl - orange mate and black stripes mate.
Originally car was orange glance, but i decide to put mate vinyl all around.
Nice view, protect from scratches, easy to remove.

looks nice with sripes... remind me on Shelby Cobra (y) i will try something with mine. white color with black stripes...

Do you mean the entire car is wrapped in vinyl? How do you do that? It must be cheaper than a respray!
Welcome to the forum.

I mean exactly this one. All car is mate orange vinyl. Actually when i bought it original paint was ok, but some places laquer was off, i think because of car age. That`s i decide to put vinyl as cheapest solution.

I didn`t do that by my self. Here, in Cambodia we have places where you can put vinyl to anything - mobile phones, laptop, motorcycles, cars, etc.

To wrap all car in vinyl it cost me just 85$. (y)

BTW, i take car from service yesterday. They found aircon problem - one of hoses was broken. Welding and adding new gas - i am cool now :D
As well engine coolant and oil were changed, so temperature now between 1/4 and 1/2. And brake booster actually not faulty, but "working not good" they told. Will try to work it later.

And i found one of "cricket sound" place. Still have one more.

One more questions, guys. When i put petrol, especially when it`s full tank, i have strong smell of petrol in car. That just only for few hours and only if i put full tank. Where i need to look?

i just found that all car in vinyl will cost me about 700€ , but with 6 years of warranty.... so I'm thinking only hardtop to carbon black vinyl

That´s odd. I just filled up last weekend and too had a strong smell of petrol which has now desappeared.

Great stripes btw.

Hiya, and welcome to the forum. :)

Nice B and love the orange,(y)

Re the fuel smell, mine had this problem , i would sometimes smell fuel and at other times not. In my case i found the problem to be a worn/ perished fuel pump gasket. Once the tank would pressurise it would smell. You'l find this behind the were the hood sits, You need to remove the rear trim and its there under a black metal panel which is held by 6x10mm bolts, then once you have removed that, you will see the pump. As soon as i opened that cover i could smell the fumes and see the fuel being pressurised up through the lid. The pump is now held in by another very small 6x 6/7mm bolts and please take care as i have heard others to have snaped these..

The fuel pipes and electrical connection are just squeezed at the sides to remove and have a cloth at the ready to soak up a little excess fuel spilt.
The gasket only cost me 12euro's from fiats and my smell has gone, so an easyand well spent fix.

heres some pics to help and worth having a look, If once the black lid is off you should notice if thats causing the smell and see trace of fuel, around the fuel pump cover..

HOPE THIS HELPS..

As KC said be carefull with the bolts there should be 8 small bolts holding down the pump. I managed to snap half of them and it was a real pain replacing them. Had to take the whole tank out weld new ones etc etc. true pain in the back side. The gasket seal was a bit difficult to source, i could only get one from Fiat.... so i simply used gasket glue-silicone and carefully applied it around the whole pump assembly. Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Will try it at next weekend. And we have big holidays here, i am going to ocean with my B. Hope to make lot of photos.

even that "Barchetta" in Italian means "Boat" don't try it in ocean... :) waiting for pictures... (y)

:p whats wrong with getting the gasket at Fiat.. best place to get it. :D

surprising ! lucky enough it is cheap.. and believe it is also listed for one of fiats vans, so should be readily avaliable..
