Technical My Orange B

Came back from ocean, but no photos :( Just forgot about making it. Next time will put sticker on forehead. :D

Some updates on my Orange B:

  1. On the open road it`s perfect. But noisy. After 120km/h filling my self like in F-16. Mostly it`s coz of soft roof. And a lot of small holes and in it. :)
  2. My soft roof is leaking. Can`t say exactly place, but when i checked car at morning after night rain i found few spots of water in car and seats were wet as well. Any ideas? I will try to fix all visible holes and also looking for water resistant spray for soft roof.
  3. "Injection fail" light still goes on after 30 minutes of running on highway. So i am going to change spark plugs.
  4. My exhaust pipe where loosened on my way back, so i enter home city with rocket sound. That`s going to be fixed together with spark plugs.
I read a lot here about Induction Kits (i mean direct intake). My question is - do i need some special one or i can use any which will fit in B?
Also is it plug and play or some changes in ECU or engine setup required?

One more question :D
I put HID kit to my headlamp. Only for low beam. For high beam i still have halogen. But, when i switch on high beam, there is now difference since low beam is HID and lights up my way enough. How do you think, maybe i need to change high beam to HID also?

And one more :) :) :)
My tail turn and stop lights looks like very dark. It`s hardly seen in daytime. I changed lamp to LED one but seems like it`s didn`t change much. How do you fight with that?

i tried with LED brake light, but it was worse. originals were lighting better. try to clean from outside, and if you can remove them check if is not dust inside. you can wash it with water and then try it with head dryer. (and check if they are not painted with transparent red/black lacquer)

same here, now high lights looks so yellow and looks that low beams are brighter than high ones... but you cannot add HID to high beams, because they do not have lenses and they will die very soon because of a lot on/off turning. also you notice that take some time HID to start lighing at full power... so i will not recomend to instal HID into high light, try some aftermarket stronger white H1 bulbs.

it's quite quick job. there are a lot of manufactures that create those intakes, but when buying take for 1.8engine (more air flow than in 1.0). i prefer Simota air intake, but a lot of peoples use Green Air Filter. you can check my or any thread how is installed. there are few ways.

Wish mine roof is out of order. Check the picture. What i can do with this? Mine is bottom :)

scissors are cutting a bit per bit every time when you close da hood. problem is in levers that cut roof on that place. i have no idea how to prevent this... it try to attach some cloth from inside, but no results. maybe is problem in shock absorbers, maybe are dead so they allow to make those levers goes to much to each other so they cut roof. and change your t-shirt it's to tight. :D

yes... but how? i cant bend cloth... i have video, i will post it later.

Actually i mean space between window and roof. Because of that gap i have water in during rain. Is it any way to adjust it?

yes... it's possible to adjust window rails. there is somewhere tutorial around here. you will have to remove door panels, (and metal cover on top of doors). what i did is that i unscrew bolts on bottom side of window rails and put some distance between rails and doors. so rails are now in bigger angle and windows are more tight to roof.

First of all download the Barchetta Service Manual available on this website.

Adjusting the window involves three basic settings:

1) Horizontal / Vertical position
2) Upper height limit stops (two off)
3) Window rake (two off)

Rake can be increased by adding packing washers on the lower ends of the window guide channels.

What I must ad is that it may take you several attempts to get it right. Even more so as when you drive the car at higher speeds the windows tend to get sucked out. The trick is getting the right position and inward pressure at the top of the glass to rubber seals WITHOUT stressing the glass/guides. So I suggest you don't restore the door internal trim till you are completely happy.

My top tips are these:

1) Check and assure seating and position of all the windscreen/hood rubber seals.

2) Feel the pressure/flexibility of all the rubber seals looking for the ideal soft and supple line where the window glass will lay properely

3) Position the basic glass positon the hit the basic 'sweet spots'

4) Now play with the rake and upper stop limits

5) Note! upper stop limits is connected to basic height adjustment. When the door closes the window has to JUST sneak in under the hood seal outer lips.

Lastly, the Barchetta's hood mechanism design is actually quite/very good, however it does take a lot of fettling to get right. Once set show me a hood ant can be lowered/raised within 20 seconds (average 15) and provide very good water and noise ingress ability.

I will try to do that. Unfortunately my rubber seals seems like old enough. That why i have additional gaps, especially behind seats, where hood mechanism and seat belt are located. Water is not going there but, noise and dust is

Most probably i will look for new hood from ebay.

Few more things. As i checked my plastic behind seats, it`s looks like dried and bended. Do you guys have experience to change it for some thing else?

Also does somebody use silencing materials for doors and interior to reduce noise?

Brakes issue. Seems like my brakes are not enough for me. I can`t make ABS working on dry asphalt and braking performance is look like low comparatively to other cars. On slippery roads ABS working good. Also when i am parking car after fast ride in town i feel smell from brakes.
So, i am wondering to change all braking system to something more powerful. Does somebody do that with his B?

you can take everything off and place dynamat material in the doors under the sears etc but since its a soft top i dont think it will do much good. Doc orange peel on here has done something similar, might be worth sending him an IM.

Ppl have changed the calipers, on the Italian forum there is an advert of a dude that makes brackets for front brembos and a guy in Greece changed all four for Audi S3 calipers. So certain replacements are possible. Before you go down that route though it might be worth bleeding the breaks and replaceing the fluid with a different grade. There is a thread on here I think suggesting which dot to use.

The roof rubbers are a pain and dry hot climates dont seem to help. An easy way to fix them although doesnt look aesthetically too pleasing is using parts of bicycle inner tubes.

I will try to find better calipers and bigger braking rotors.

F4usT. Unfortunately, my wheels are stainless steel, but i liked allow.

It been a big while since i updated this thread. Time to show up and get your comments.

PS. It`s not me, it`s my GF :)

Is this your car? I've seen many f33ked up barchetta's but I rather like this one. The air vents are big nono, but I like the front bumper. Nice Job my friend

Sure, it`s mine. Still have a lot of work to do. Wing vents copied from BMW Z3, hood vent - my design, but here, in Cambodia +30 all year, so this vent helping a lot.

I see you got some kind of angel eyes. Would you mind sharing your experience on them?

Really like your car. The front suits te car verry well, as well as the rear bumper.
Not too keen about the spoiler though.
Could you post up some more pictures? Some more details of the rear bumper etc.

First about angel eyes. As you can see, it placed in high beam. So standard high beam deflector was without lens, and i replaced it with lens one. That lens is universal HID lens kit including angel eye which i found at local market.
Angel eye are connected to side lights which also was in high beam reflector (small lamp).

Spoiler layout was inspired by this one http://www.designsimik.com/katalog.php?ID=293

Going to put stop LED light into it.
