Well, I don't know... I do lots of calculations similar to those required by exhaust manufactures (I assume it's finding the coefficient of bends/joins/materials, and working out whether or not a laminar or turbulent flow is required to satisfy the engines need). I've never seen any exhaust fitter do anything like that.

I think turbo cars are a different ball game though, they benefit only from higher flow rates, no?
