After a year of driving on Portuguese roads (and I use that term in it's broadest sense!) I have returned to discover that my alloys are now oval. That's fine if I wanted to enter my car in a wacky race but as it is I think I will have to replace them. Sadly Mille Miglia no longer make my alloys, and after much photoshopping I only fancy two alloys despite a week of looking.
However, the ones I like (and indeed most of the ones I am not fussed about) are 100mm PCD 4 stud instead of 98mm PCD which FIATs need.

Countless alloy wheel suppliers state that 100mm PCD alloys can be fitted to the Barchetta with 'Vary Bolts' or 'Wobble Bolts' or whatever their particular brand is called, but my questions are:

What are they?
Has anyone got them on their car?
Any probs?

Hmmmm?

And if anyone knows where I can get 4x new 17inch Mille Miglia 'Spider 2' alloys, then better still I guess... but I have tried without success!

Here's what a wobble bolt look like. They are used on my cheapo alloys if you want to have a look. Loads on e-bay but no idea as to their quality.

Wobble bolts are absolutely fine. They have 'loose' collars which allow the bolt to sit off-centre in the hole in the wheel but still be held evenly and tightly on the mounting face by the collar. Any wheel bolt has some clearance in the hole in the wheel. (remember on 4x100 wheels we're only talking 1mm off-centre for each bolt) while still being held securely. I think they are an elegant and clever solution to the problem.

Having said that, there are a couple of things to consider. If you are buying 4x100s the offset is probably wrong. If this is the case you'll need some hubcentric spacers.

If you do you'll need to be sure of the length of wobble bolt you will need to use (standard length PLUS the width of the spacer, possibly minus the width of the standard Fiat spacers).

Make sure - as shown in the thread which has been linked to - that the wheels will actually take wobble bolts. Because of how they work they have a wide collar and not all wheels will take them.

If you need the spacers and longer bolts you probably won't be able to get a locking/security version.

By the time you've bought hubcentric spacers and wobble bolts you might as well have bought some more expensive 4x98s with the correct offset.

Blimey! There's more to it than I imagined then. All the 98mm PCD wheels I have seen don't float my boat (or should that be barchetta!) but the amount of faffing about to get 100PCDs fitted seems too much bother! I will enquire with the supplier as to the offset, but if it's 40 (the VW standard, correct?) then I'm going to drive with oval wheels a bit longer!
I guess, having read the linked thread, that Bs come with a standard spacer already... correct?
