Hallo desert rat, wish mine was orange and all the other Barchetta owners who are intersted,

I've recently fitted the first two production versions of my Barchetta soft top with a Glass rear screen. I'm now happy with this top:) so I'm going on sale with it now. I have a home page cabriotec.co.uk for UK customers and details can be found there.
Thanks very much to all of you who have shown interst in my work.

Regards

Chris Clark

Hi Chris. Good to see that you have finally managed to put the Glass rear window into production.

I tried your link but unfortunately I could not get it to work? I did find your German site and had a quick look but didn't see the Barchetta

Unfortunately I have recently sold my Barchetta  I had just logged on tonight to see how everyone is getting along. I ran out of storage space and the wife needed space in the garage.

I wish you well with the production of these.... I'm sure there must be alot of people that would benefit from a glass rear window. I wish it was an option on my new car :(

I keep thinking about getting another B and miss her. But unfortunatly I will have to move house first. One with a smaller house and bigger garage (y)

Hiya Chris,

How much is this conversion? I,m also interested..

Hallo desert rat and KC3

Thanks for the encouragement:). I'm selling this top for 680euros and the postage to the UK. is 24euros. Fitting it is different to the original but not more difficult (you have to drill some holes in the frame). I give help when you are fitting it on the 'phone or with skype.

Hi there. I'm a bit confused - are you selling a hood with the glass screen, or can the screen be bought and fitted separately? And this may be a silly question but, where does the screen go when you lower the hood?

Hallo barch
The main part of the hood and the screen piece are two distinct parts that are not attached (sewn) to each other. You could fit the screen piece in the original hood but the hight and shape of the original plastic screen is such that the glass would be a bit too high up in the hood and the corners have quite a small radius. The glass that I use is about as big as is possible in the B. This would IMHO not look too good. Since most of the original hoods were made in PVC material and are now due to be changed I didn't think it would be worth offering a "tuning" part for a hood that then looked worse than the original. If owners spend good money on something like this then it has to look the part as well as working as it should:D. This PVC material is not readily available so it would not be possible to make a matching screen piece.
With other cars it is different. The MX5 NA replacable rear screen was ideal for such a conversion and the PVC material could be bought directly from the manufacturer. With the Audi 80 and E30 cabs. the hoods are all in (mostly black) cloth which lasts very long. I will be offering glass rear screen conversions for these later this year. The Alfa Spider rear section can also be made with a glass screen and just swaps straight in.
When the hood is open the bottom edge of the glass is just in front of the horizontal hoop and the top edge is just under the edge of the cover for the soft top. I hope you understand the way I've explained it.
